dunedain rogue, 1st one dead at CL15 by the hand of a miserable priest, second dead at CL19 from a LF 8-5 death knight highing behind a black knight and i was within !phase of a hydra pit.
just say you want me to die?

ok, a couple recommendations to @Nick when it comes to traps,

1. 300 damage from a rock fall is waaay too high
2. maybe, summon traps should summon mobs at 0 energy. it's not really cool to have a dracolich appear and breathe in the same round.

EDIT:
i just remembered that - i forgot to do a thing. I was gonna list the spells i never used throughout the game, and oh boy, there's many. The first 3 books i cast some of them once for the XP, but after that i didnt bother.
I used Healing once, and never used the two cures from the Purifications book, as i was just casting Heal all the time. And i never really used Cure Mortal Wounds because CCW works better. Never used any of the better detect spells, as by that time i already had ESP and clairvoyance, so ..
Never used annihilation as i did more damage with my MOD and have better uses for my mana, and also, with the Glyph, i would rather be out of LOS, as other uniques ranged attacks are much stronger than mine - i'd rather be in melee.

turns out Resist Fire & Cold is actually very useful if you dont have *Fire

did you know Iridescent Beetles can paralize you ? Well you do now.
sucks when you've been clearing levels to DL29 and you cant find a **** pair of Boots of Free Action.
Oh and this randart set had a RoP of +2 shots.

also RIP a CL30 paladin in a manner so stupid i won't even mention.

Umber Hulks have few HP; in that situation if I were playing a martial class I would try to just bumble into the thing and hope I got it to flee, then cure confusion.

What derakon said. And if you weren't playing such a class, you could detect it before it got the jump on you. (I assume you carry ?PD until you are sufficiently strong to survive any failed cast of the spell.)

i tried that approach and got him down to 4 stars but still died. some small beetle joined in the fun and was hitting me for a few hp each round and that helped ned my run.

of course i was carrying phase, but it caught me by surprise. i was a measly ranger with 1.6 blows (or less) and just could not tank a hulk when confused.

you have to keep in mind that im impatient and dumb and fumble-fingered, so some deaths that were avoidable i won't avoid. I *just* lost a CL27 paladin to a 4-headed hydra .. frankly a mediocre character, so im not really shattered.

You are making a mistake in not using bless in the early game when a +10 to_hit makes a huge difference against major targets. And sense invisible is very much determined by equipment--yeah it isn't always useful, but when it is, it makes a big difference. That said, its fail rate and/or cost.should be lower. And finally: the spell list is totally different in 4.2

sense invisible comes in too late. SI is pretty easy to find on most artifacts, and with ego weapon being able to have ESP, you'll generally be set by CL20.

Yeah, I would take on sauron with no rNexus with 95% save. But doing without FA takes save 100%. You just need a bit more WIS and maybe CL 48, and you don't need to worry.

So for some reason, it did not write over the file-dump file i did at CL47.

i did make it to CL50 in the end, disappointed that i had sub-1k hp, and that i didnt find a single artifact light.
However i found TWO stacks of Seeker Arrows of Holy Might and a dragon armor artifact so i shouldnt complain.

Morgoth fight was super easy as i had already nuked most uniques, including the Tarrasque.
