How long have you been playing without winning

For me it's about 7 years this spring. I've played mostly Zangband, mostly with a Vampire Chaos Warrior but lately I've switched to Human Death Knight or Human Chaos Warrior, and also been playing a Vanilla Elf Ranger. And never won.

Am I the only one that's been winless for that amount of time?

14 years and counting. But his whole "winning" thing is overrated. Even, only very recently some variants have any kind of special end game, really.

Since Moria - on and off though.

Well that makes it anticlimactic

Although tbh just being on dungeon level 99 or 100 would be enough for me

I've only been playing Angband for about two years and haven't won, but I played Nethack for about ten years before getting my first win (and only ever won it once).

A half year.

On and off about 17 years starting with Rogue.

The first rogue-like I saw was Moria on a classic mac back in '88. It wasn't my machine, I couldn't delve properly until later, but that was when it started for me. 20 years. You could very easily get less for first degree murder. :)

There have been close calls. I had a paladin get to Evil Iggy in Moria (which as I understand is very close to the bottom). And my last character (a dwarf warrior?) was deep, Great Wyrm and Balrog deep. But I always used to play slow and careful. The wonderful people on this list inspired me to try crazy dives down to stat gain level. It's like a new game again. Old items have new uses. No longer do I have to kill everything (or anything) on a level.

Hahaha yeah, but prison isn't as fun, now is it?

I've been Angbanding without a win for about 14 years now ... and I used to cheat, too. I've just in the past month started playing without cheating, and it's much more fun and exciting.
