Fun Fact: *Destruct* does not end Single Combat
Something I just discovered when getting my butt handed to me by Morgoth in Single Combat as a Paladin: While *Destructing* Morgoth banishes him from the Single Combat arena, it doesn't actually *end* single combat.
I'm not salty or anything, just bemused. I went down to fight him because I was bored, despite only having one *Healing* potion and not having Dexterity sustained (both of which were very large mistakes). And then using Single Combat, and thus cutting off my escape route, even though I wasn't sure I could take him (I couldn't). So...I guess I just trapped myself in a tomb of stone for all eternity... |
Nah, @ will starve to death long before eternity.

Isnt there a bug in hunger right now, where 0% hunger doesnt actually kill you?

Is "Single Combat" some kind of special mode? In other games, they do have a first class concept of being "in" and "out" of combat. The only way to get "out" of combat is to kill the monster, or run out of range to "reset" the monster. While "in" combat, some things behave differently than when "out" of combat. (For example, "out" of combat, your health regenerates on its own, "in" combat, it does not.) Now, these are dramatically different games and mechanics, but given that as a reference, i didn't know there was a concept "Single Combat", much less that it needed to be "ended". |

Another single combat bug
So I killed Sauron, and was having some fun with Grond. I went into single combat with Omarax, and Grond caused some earthquakes. One earthquake, however, made him disappear entirely! And now I am stuck :|
Edit:Using debug mode, I was successfully able to leave by teleporting to the SAME level in which I entered single combat. Teleporting to other levels crashed the game. I submitted my dump before entering debug mode :) |
Obviously if you blow your enemy away using Destruct or earthquake, the room should be filled with Hounds of Tindalos, and you can only escape if you kill all of them.
|
Just replace the monster with a hasted great wyrm of power.

That would work too, though honestly Hounds of Tindalos scare me more. They haunt my nightmares... |

It seems like destruction should have no effect in single combat, otherwise you are not really locked in single combat. Similar argument for earthquakes. What happens if you teleport other or teleport self in single combat?

Interestingly, while Destruct does destroy your opponent it doesn't make a mess of the dungeon floor. Having earthquake not work is a bit problematic because presumably that would mean Morgoths shatter wouldnt work either. As is, while single combat keeps Morgoth from summoning, it makes his shatter more dangerous because you have less room to maneuver. Negating *two* of Morgoths attacks (summons and shatter) would make it a bit too powerful I think. |
You don't get credit for killing an opponent with an earthquake?
