For boots there is standart Feanor which beats that any day. Any other armor-part of the equipment list + amulet and "it's broken".

AnonymousHero August 10, 2014 17:14

Here's a few choice artifacts from a recent character:

Code:

the Long Bow of Istarinam (x5) (+12,+14) <+2>
---------------------------------------------
+2 strength, shooting speed, shooting power.
+10% to searching.
Provides resistance to acid, fire, disenchantment.
Provides protection from fear.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Feather Falling.  Grants the ability to see invisible things.

When aimed, it creates a frost ball with damage 50.
Takes 65 to 72 turns to recharge.

Min Level 56, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, Power 359, 4.0 lbs
Based on Eönwë.

Never found that one. Somewhat low plusses, but +2 shots and +2 power...

Code:

the Red Dragon Scale Mail of Aiqueth (-2,+5) [24,+29] <+4, +1>
--------------------------------------------------------------
+4 strength, constitution, stealth, infravision, tunneling.
Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold, poison, light, dark, sound,
shards, chaos, disenchantment.
Provides protection from fear, blindness, confusion.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Sustains strength.
Slows your metabolism.  Prevents paralysis.  Sustains your life force.
Radius 1 light.

When activated, it brands bolts with fire, in an unbalanced fashion.
Takes 205 to 325 turns to recharge.

Min Level 100, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, Power 792, 14.4 lbs
Based on Bladeturner.

Never found this either. Loads of resists, p* (except pStun), etc. and a little bit of extra damage.

Code:

the Set of Gauntlets of Glachirme [3,+21] <+4, +1>
--------------------------------------------------
+4 strength, intelligence, infravision.
Provides immunity to fire, cold.
Provides resistance to lightning, sound, nexus.
Provides protection from fear.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Sustains intelligence, wisdom.
Slows your metabolism.  Prevents paralysis.
Radius 1 light.

When activated, it confuses all non-unique creatures within line of sight.
Takes 82 to 100 turns to recharge.

Min Level 56, Max Level 127, Generation chance 12, Power 356, 2.5 lbs
Based on Gondricam.

Way better than Gondricam, IMO. Two immunities in a glove slot can be very handy, even though ImmFire was actually covered by an über-ring in my equipment setup (see below).

Code:

the Ring of Power 'Elkornur' [+1] <+3, +1>
------------------------------------------
+3 strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution, stealth, speed.
Provides immunity to fire.
Provides resistance to acid, cold, light, dark, nether.
Provides protection from fear, blindness, confusion, stunning.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Sustains dexterity.
Slows your metabolism.  Feather Falling.  Speeds regeneration.  Prevents
paralysis.  Sustains your life force.  Grants the ability to see invisible
things.
Radius 1 light.

When activated, it attempts to magically enhance a piece of armour with high
chance of success.  Also gives a chance to break a curse.
Takes 123 to 165 turns to recharge.

Min Level 99, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, Power 658, 0.2 lbs
Based on Vilya.

Quite amazing ring -- stats, p* (including pStun). The only thing missing is ESP and I guess it could theoretically have had a slightly higher PVAL.

Estie August 10, 2014 20:51

While randomized Bladeturner and Deathwreaker can turn into insane things, they have this issue of resisting actually getting found in game.
I have come to prefer the smaller jewels, like for example this sweety that instantly made my struggling paladins life easy:

Code:

the Full Plate Armour of Ndilos (-3) [62,+9] <+9>
-------------------------------------------------
+9 stealth, speed.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.

Min Level 60, Max Level 127, Generation chance 20, Power 393, 36.0 lbs
Based on Celeborn.

Derakon August 10, 2014 20:54

Body Armor of Speed is always welcome, and getting about 8 times more stealthy is a pleasant side-bonus. It'll make covering resists a bit trickier though.

Angrist August 10, 2014 22:48

Code:

the Pair of Leather Boots of Varad [2,+18] <+7>

    +7 constitution, speed.
    Provides resistance to fire.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.

When activated, it restores your experience.

It is Vanilla with the birth option "randomize some of the artifacts" turned on. You can print out the artifact file at death/retirement (and keep the same artifacts for your next character with another birth option if you so desire).

Nomad September 5, 2014 00:51

Not a bad drop from Wormie at way past his natural depth:

Code:

the Cloak of Nilad [1,+16] <+3>
Dropped by Wormtongue, Agent of Saruman at 2550 feet (level 51).

    +3 strength, wisdom, speed.
Provides resistance to acid, nether, disenchantment.
    Provides protection from confusion.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
    Grants telepathy.

When activated, it teleports you five levels down.
Takes 341 to 459 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 91.4%

I've never seen Deep Descent on a randart before. Neat!

MattB September 7, 2014 09:24

Sometimes great randarts are entirely situational. I'm currently trying to shovel my way to victory for about the hundredth time (only harming anyone with the standard shovel bought from the shop). These gloves are great...
Code:

u) the Set of Gauntlets of Valindil [3,+9]
Found lying on the floor of a special room at 3950 feet (level
    79).

Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold, poison, light,
    dark, sound, chaos.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
    Sustains wisdom.
    Prevents paralysis.

When activated, it heals 500 hit points, heals cut damage, and
    cures stunning.
Takes 228 to 280 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 89.9%

But for this character, these gloves are amazing...

Code:

k) the Set of Leather Gloves of Varverog [1,+20] <+2>
Dropped by Hoarmurath of Dir at 3700 feet (level 74).

    +2 attack speed.
    +10% to searching.
Provides resistance to lightning, cold, shards.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
    Sustains dexterity.
Prevents paralysis.  Sustains your life force.

When activated, it magically renders you well-fed, curing any
    gastrointestinal problems.
Takes 114 to 126 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 87.9%

MattB September 8, 2014 00:46

Not a randart, anything but, however damage ain't bad...

Code:

a) a Shovel (1d2) (+14,+13) <+1> {!k !d}
    Bought from a store.

    +1 tunneling.

    Combat info:
    7.5 blows/round.
With +0 STR and +3 DEX you would get 7.8 blows
    Average damage/round: 579.8.

Acid-branded 6d4 weapon that activates for teleport level? Well, it doesn't seem like that could possibly come in useful, but it does also have slow digestion, so hey, maybe it's worth keeping...

Code:

a) the Great Axe of Mingorod (6d4) (+25,+19) [+12]
Found lying on the floor of a special room at 3250 feet (level
    65).

    Slays animals, giants.
    Branded with acid.
Provides resistance to cold, light, dark.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
    Slows your metabolism.  Speeds regeneration.

When activated, it teleports you one level up or down.
Takes 344 to 462 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 92.2%

    Combat info:
    4.7 blows/round.
With +0 STR and +2 DEX you would get 5.2 blows
    Average damage/round: 328.9 vs. animals, 410.3 vs. giants, 410.3
vs. creatures not resistant to acid, and 247.5 vs. others.

donalde October 20, 2014 18:52

warriors palantir

the Palanti*r of Telberen (+0,+8) <+4>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4750 feet (level 95).

+4 wisdom.
Provides resistance to cold.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Grants telepathy.
Radius 4 light.

+8 to dam is huge bonus on to_dam on light source ... now, I need something with +attacks for my kobolt warrior :)

Nomad November 4, 2014 18:04

Well, I'm not going to forget wield-testing this one in a hurry:

Code:

  the Metal Lamellar Armour of Arwedrind (-3) [58,-18] <+4> {cursed}
Dropped by Brodda, the Easterling at 450 feet (level 9).

    Heavily cursed.
    +4 constitution.
    Provides resistance to lightning.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Aggravates creatures nearby.  Drains experience.  Induces random
    teleportation.

Edit: all right, just to add insult to injury I just discovered the superb feeling on this level (still 450 feet) was multi-hued DSM, which I can't wear because I'm stuck in this cursed randomly teleporting aggravating experience-draining armour that's also stopping me casting spells.

Awesome! Best cursed randart I've ever seen. Why does it stop you casting spells??

It's very heavy, and he's only at 450' so he doesn't have much of a mana pool to begin with.

Nomad November 5, 2014 01:35

Yep. I was playing a half-orc rogue and only on character level 12 when I found it, so the weight of the armour completely wiped out my mana pool. I couldn't level up because the exp drain had such a severe effect at that early point that I had to keep constantly killing things just to try and prevent my character level from steadily dropping, and every time I tried to move towards the stairs or pick up items I got randomly teleported, plus it was impossible to rest because of the combo of teleportation and aggravation. I died not long afterwards, sadly, but it was an entertainingly mad game while it lasted...

Estie November 8, 2014 16:59

Something for the extreme shoveler ?

the Mattock of Vainarnim (4d8) (-10,+14) [+16] <-9>
---------------------------------------------------
Cursed.
-9 strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution, infravision,
tunneling, attack speed.
-45% to searching.
Slays animals, evil creatures, orcs, trolls, giants.
*Slays* dragons, demons, undead.
Branded with weak acid, frost, venom.
Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold, light, dark.
Provides protection from stunning.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Grants the ability to see invisible things.

Whoa. I think this may be the best worst artifact I've ever seen. I mean T2:Theme has "of Morgul" ego weapons which are nearly this bad, but this is impressive even by those standards.

Derakon November 8, 2014 21:13

Too bad about that -9 attack speed modifier. It could actually make a good replacement for Grond once you're wearing the Iron Crown, otherwise.

A few years ago when playing TomeNET (pernMAngband at that time) I found probably the best cursed artifact ever: the DOOM 'Malduin' (-9) with -9 to all stats and speed... but all the other abilities and resists in the book (all highs, esp, ...).

If you have natural 6 blows that weapon should definitely give any enemy you hit three free blows against you.

Estie November 20, 2014 04:20

the Quarterstaff 'Bornog' (9d9) (+12,+12)
Conjured forth by magic at 4900 feet (level 98).

Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.

Combat info:
6.0 blows/round.
This weapon may benefit from one or more off-weapon brands or
slays.
Average damage/round: 1054.8 vs. evil creatures, 1378.8 vs.
creatures not resistant to acid, and 730.8 vs. others.

What version are you playing that you managed to get off-weapon Slay Evil and x3 Acid Brand? Cripes. Sauron is gonna melt like butter in a volcano.

Estie November 20, 2014 05:41

Normal 3.5; heres the dump: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=16975

I almost dumped that staff, as I was using this at the time:

the Main Gauche 'Antelth' (6d5) (+6,+29) <+2>
---------------------------------------------
+2 intelligence, dexterity.
+10% to searching.
Slays orcs.
*Slays* dragons, demons.
Branded with lightning.
Provides resistance to lightning, nexus, chaos.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Blessed by the gods. Grants the ability to see invisible things.

When activated, it causes your next attack upon a monster to confuse it.
Takes 65 to 72 turns to recharge.

Min Level 50, Max Level 127, Generation chance 6, Power 308, 2.7 lbs
Based on Sting.

and had this prepared for Morgoth:

the Spear 'Mithoth' (2d6) (+8,+29) <+2>
---------------------------------------
+2 wisdom, attack speed.
Slays evil creatures.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Blessed by the gods. Grants the ability to see invisible things.

Min Level 47, Max Level 127, Generation chance 20, Power 284, 5.0 lbs
Based on Erebor.

which did more damage to evil than a MoD +2 attacks I also had found.
Truly a remarkable randart set, usually nothing beats a MoD with 2 attacks or slay evil.

They're possible randart abilities. They have very high power ratings though, so you don't see them at all often. In particular, off-weapon Slay Evil must have a gigantic power rating.

In the standarts, I believe the Paur* gauntlets now provide off-weapon brands, and maybe a couple of other low-power artifacts were given similar abilities.

Paurnimmen is Brand_Cold. Cubragol is Brand_Fire (though not sure if that works the same way). No non-weapon has Slay_Evil, or indeed any other weapon ability.

Nomad November 30, 2014 00:20

Not even a randart, but as memorable early game finds go...

Code:

an Executioner's Sword of Extra Attacks (4d5) (+6,+7) <+2>
Found lying on the floor at 300 feet (level 6).

    +2 attack speed.

    Combat info:
    3.1 blows/round.
With +4 STR and +0 DEX you would get 3.3 blows
With +0 STR and +1 DEX you would get 3.3 blows
    Average damage/round: 72.5.

Previously, this character was pretty darn chuffed to be getting a whole 19.2 damage with his lucky find of a Main Gauche (+3,+3).

Nomad December 1, 2014 00:01

Man, this thing doesn't slay giants or have a lightning brand. Pathetic!

Code:

the Dagger of Lacharil (1d4) (+8,+19) [+10] <+2, +1>
Dropped by Scatha the Worm at 2350 feet (level 47).

    +2 strength, dexterity, infravision.
Slays animals, evil creatures, undead, orcs, trolls, dragons.
    *Slays* demons.
Branded with weak acid, weak frost, weak venom, flames.
    Provides resistance to lightning.
    Provides protection from confusion.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
    Sustains strength.
Speeds regeneration.  Grants the ability to see invisible things.

    Radius 1 light.

reforged lance (poscheng)

I reforged a 200 000+ power randart based on the One ring into a heavy lance. My initial reaction was clearly disappointment - The Heavy Lance of Eternity (6d9) (+16,+19) {FaSi/pT} - nothing spectactular. But then I took a look at the weight - 60.4 lb - yes!!!! 50% more than the heaviest weapon I've found in this game so far.

Wielded it comes out as this:
Code:

Hand #1: The Heavy Lance of Eternity (9d12) (+16,+19)      Accuracy
Weight : 60.4 lbs                                          AC Hit
 To Hit : 16 + 70 = 86                                      25 91%
 To Dam : 19 + 94 = 113                                      50 88%
 Blows  : 2.18                                              75 84%
 Damage                                                    100 80%
 Crits  : 2.71x                                            125 77%
 Normal : 590 (298-882) [2.71x]                            150 73%
 Human  : 1108 (377-1839) [6.77x]                          175 69%
 Trolls : 1282 (405-2160) [8.13x]                          200 66%

Blocking is very effective (+66 AC). I guess Crushing Blow is better now too. I only tried it once on Jack of Shadows. He was slightly wounded before this but very dead after one hit.

(edit) Does ?mundanity reset Weight? I've got one plus ? Weapon branding

PowerWyrm January 6, 2015 13:22

This one should activate for "opera singing"...

Code:

the Arkenstone of Carmen <+3>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4950 feet (level 99).

Provides resistance to acid, cold, sound, disenchantment.
Cannot be harmed by acid, lightning, fire, cold.
    Radius 3 light.

When activated, it completely lights up and magically maps the current
level, and detects all doors, stairs and traps in the immediate area every
38 to 75 turns at your current depth.

Estie January 17, 2015 01:14

q) the Jewel Encrusted Crown of Gondor [0,+35]
Dropped by Kavlax the Many-Headed at 4350 feet (level 87).

Provides resistance to lightning, fire, poison, light.
Provides protection from fear.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
Sustains constitution.
Prevents paralysis.

When activated, it reveals to you the extent of an item's magical
powers.
Takes 211 to 234 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 79.8%

Cheap plastic imitation !

So, half troll warrior had some branded weapons for ~250 damage but was using a defender mace (2 stealth) with only ~200 damage as it was the only source of SI.

Then I found this:

a) the Flail of Aragona (6d6) (+12,+27) <+4, +1>
Dropped by a mature black dragon at 2300 feet (level 46)

+4 strength.
+4 stealth.
+1 light.
Slays undead (powerfully), animals.

3.5 blows/round.
With +0 STR and +1 DEX you would get 3.8 blows
Average damage/round: 646.1 vs. undead, 401.2 vs. animals, and
319.5 vs. others.

Perfect fit.

A not-so-memorable randart:
Code:

h) the Fur Cloak of Himlor [3,+15]
Dropped by Brodda, the Easterling at 1450 feet (level 29)

Cannot be harmed by acid, fire.

Thanks Brodda, I guess?

Pete Mack March 15, 2020 15:21

I am guessing that is from the phial. The cursed artifacts are deeper than DL 20.

biini August 31, 2020 16:53

Back in the dungeon for no idea how many years. Descenting slowly, and finally found my first randart weapon!

r) the Dagger 'Valadele' (1d4) (-10,-8) {cursed, ??}
Dropped by Bolg, Son of Azog at 1000 feet (level 20)

You do not know the full extent of this item's powers.
It makes it hard to hit anything.
It paralyses you every now and then.
It occasionally makes a loud noise.
Slays undead (powerfully), evil creatures.
Cannot be harmed by Acid.
Drains experience.

When activated, it grants temporary free action for 1d10+10 turns.
Takes 42 to 46 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 94.1%

I think I'll keep my +9+9 Holy Avenger for now :-D

Ugramoth September 9, 2020 07:42

Got 5-9 feeling at level 18. Turns out to be this:

Ring of Geluinya <+6, +1, +3, +2>:
Found lying on the floor at 900 feet (level 18)

+6 wisdom.
+1 dexterity.
+3 constitution.
+2 stealth.
+1 searching skill.
Provides immunity to cold.
Provides resistance to Acid, Lightning, Fire, Light, Dark, Nexus, Nether.
Provides protection from fear, confusion.
Cannot be harmed by Lightning.
Slows your metabolism. Feather Falling. Grants telepathy. Grants the ability to see invisible things. Prevents paralysis. Sustains your life force.

When activated, it completely lights up and magically maps the level, detecting all objects.
Takes 205 to 325 turns to recharge.

Well, Dunadan mage does not need +6 wisdom but I think this is still somewhat better than the ring of resist fire and cold I was wearing. Especially since the activation is not some half-ass detection, it's full Enlightenment!

Sky September 9, 2020 19:13

well, i went a full game using rods of treasure detection and magic mapping, before i realized that i had been using an Arkenstone as my light for about 80 dungeon levels.

Ugramoth September 10, 2020 08:26

Good going continues. First an early potion of Experience (6-9 level) gave me five levels in one go and few levels deeper Mim was nice enough to plug some of the very few resistance holes that the wonderful ring didn't.

Jewel of Shelor <+2, +1, +3>
Dropped by Mim, Betrayer of Turin at 1600 feet (level 32)

+2 intelligence
+1 dexterity
+3 stealth
Provides resistance to Acid, Sound, Disenchantment.
Provides protection from fear, blindness.
Sustains constitution.
Speeds regeneration.

Large Metal Shield of Ithon [12,+16] <+3>:
Dropped by Mim, Betrayer of Turin at 1600 feet (level 32)

+3 wisdom
Provides immunity to Acid.
Provides resistance to Lightning, Fire, Dark, Sound.
Cannot be harmed by Acid.
Slows your metabolism.

Character level 31, dungeon level 32. 2 immunities, +4 speed from black market boots, all resistances except poison, chaos, stun. All signs point to getting one-shotted by a drolem very soon...

Ugramoth September 10, 2020 09:23

Theres a Moron in every other randart set :) Another common one is Dildo.

the Mace of Disruption 'Essereda' (14d8) (+17,+25) <+1, +4>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4900 feet (level 98)

+1 strength.
+4 wisdom.
+1 light.
Slays dragons (powerfully), demons (powerfully), undead.
Branded with poison.
Provides resistance to Lightning, Cold.

slays.
Average damage/round: 2874 vs dragons and demons, 1904 vs undead
and creatures not resistant to poison, 1419 vs evil creatures, and
933.5 vs. others.

14d8 is highest base damage I have seen. Is there a cap ?

Slay evil owing to the paldin spell.

Pete Mack November 6, 2021 14:56

About the dice cap? Clearly there is no hard cap. What I dont understand is how that got generated. It has way more power than any "non-special" artifact in the game.

Estie November 6, 2021 15:08

Power is listed as 612; Deathwreaker has 616. In the same set is also a quarterstaff with power 661 (which I didnt find):

the Quarterstaff 'Mirim' (3d9) (+15,+31) <+3, +4, +2, +6, +1>
-------------------------------------------------------------
Six feet of oak which can be wielded in both hands to give a drubbing or block
one.

+4 wisdom.
+2 dexterity.
+2 constitution.
+6 speed.
+1 extra blows.
Slays undead (powerfully), dragons (powerfully), animals, evil creatures.
Branded with cold.
Provides resistance to Acid, Sound, Shards, Disenchantment.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
Sustains constitution.
Grants the ability to see invisible things.

When activated, it breathes a cone of fire with width 20 degrees, dealing 200
damage at the source.
Takes 164 to 240 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 30.3%

Min Level 80, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, Power 661, 15.0 lbs
Random hafted of power 661.

Estie November 6, 2021 15:25

I think the main reason Deathwreaker has the same power value as the 14d8 mace is that slay evil is considered about the same as 2x base dice ?

In which case it is mostly the paladin spell that messes up.

And of course, there are the other slays/brands.

Pete Mack November 6, 2021 15:54

But 14d8 dominates 7d8 with Slay Evil. Yeah, there's no +5 STR and fire immunity, but those are negligible compared to the insane damage.

Estie November 6, 2021 16:12

Yeah, so slay evil is valued too highly.

Pete Mack November 6, 2021 18:13

I suspect that power as a function of base damage is off.

Estie November 6, 2021 18:28

Maybe; ive browsed through some more randart sets, and there was a 1d9 quarterstaff with everything and their dog on it valued > 900. Fire immunity, telepathy, +2 blows, all great but its just another stat stick for a mage.

the Long Bow of Rhuorim (x5) (+19, +31)
Slays evil creatures

That is crazy! 235 damage per shot with ordinary arrows. 435 with seeker arrows of wounding.

Estie January 10, 2022 16:36

I dont know what the chances for "slay evil" on a bow are. I have seen the occasional branding bow, maybe 2 or 3 in dozens of games. This is the first time I have encontered a slay evil bow. Thankfully it also has good values for multiplier and damage, so a post on the braggart thread was in order.

Grotug January 11, 2022 09:18

I would have posted damage infos for various arrows in my quiver as part of my braggart post had I found said launcher. As such, my Hobbit ranger throws pebbles in your direction in jealousy. And the launcher has +4 stealth, +3 Wisdom, two important sustains, and confusion protection. To have so much useful utility and ridiculous damage; I mean that is seriously bonkers. Well, I guess it makes up for the ring of Leren you found earlier (though as I scroll further down the thread I see you also got the 14d8 uber mace, which should honestly have a power rating of 1000). At least my ho-hum heavy crossbow I recently acquired on DL34 has +8 speed and slays dragons. What's the power rating of your launcher?

Estie January 11, 2022 13:28

The reason I didnt post damage numbers is that the bow was originally found by a rogue. However, I proceeded to play a ranger with the same randart set and here is the dump:

The highest damage vs evil I had was shy of 1200, you can see the damage of my last quiver in the dump, basically everything does 1k vs evil.

Edit: power is 289

Here is a bizarre item I found - it maps and lights an entire level - but I can't read any scrolls because of the -3 light :/

There are some other nice aspects to it, and some other not so nice aspects...

Code:

l) the Arkenstone of Gelwilda <+3, +5, +2, -3> (charging) {cursed}
Taken from a chest found at 2550 feet (level 51)

It paralyses you every now and then.
It poisons you from time to time.
    +3 wisdom.
    +5 searching skill.
    +2 infravision.
    -3 light.
    Provides immunity to Fire.
    Provides resistance to Nexus, Chaos.
    Cannot be harmed by Fire.
    Feather Falling.  Prevents teleportation.
    Intensity -3 light.

When activated, it lights and maps the entire level, sensing
    objects.
Takes 107 to 210 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 94.7%

Estie March 23, 2022 22:55

Interesting item - presumably you could use it if you somehow got >3 light from elsewhere ?

Yeah, I would definitely consider it.

The "Prevents teleportation" aspect is also a bit unnerving - I've never intentionally played that way. I like carrying a few !PD with me, they are disposable, but I could probably live without them at this stage.

That’s a swap item; you wear it to take the stairs, use it, then forget about it until you’re going down again. (With the option of swapping for fights against big fire breathers.)

Cryomaniac March 24, 2022 21:05

Yet another item from the Touhou mod, this time more risky to use:

Code:

X Ribbon of C('i)adan [1,+6] (+4 to speed) {+SpCnChIf;*Co;InLv[T(Cn}
      Hard

              It affects your constitution.
Moon-Rabbit    It affects your charisma.
Udonge        It affects your infravision.
LEVEL    13  It affects your speed.
EXP      438  It sustains your constitution.
AU      4704  It provides immunity to cold.
| ~  "~(()))  It provides resistance to otherworldly horrors.
STR :    22  It allows you to levitate.
INT :    15  It prevents teleportation.
WIS :    13  It cannot be harmed by the elements.

Randart names can sometimes be weird in my translation, I'll be looking into that later; anyway, +4 CON/CHR/speed, an immunity, insanity resistance... and anti-teleportation. That was one of early game quest rewards, by the way.

It makes you hallucinate sometimes.
-3 speed.
Cannot be harmed by Acid.

Combat info:
5.0 blows/round.
Average damage/round: 67.5.
What did this thing do to piss off the RNG so badly

Estie March 26, 2022 14:42

Finding such a thing early on at least gets one some runes known when "selling" it.

Hey, it sustains dexterity! Totally worth it!

For me, fire immunity has fallen off of my priority list as a swap item. I tried to make use of this item but never could get enough +Light to offset the -Light effect. What I really liked was the map/light/detect aspect, but you need to wield damn thing in order to get any reuse out of it. In the end I Barandil was victorious using the phial.

Ed_47569 November 20, 2022 17:21

This came in handy for some extra speed for my current warrior (4.2.4). The activation has a far better success rate and duration than a Rod of Speed too...

j) the Hard Leather Cap 'Elkor' [2,+16] <+8, +1>
Found lying on the floor of a special room at 2400 feet (level 48)

+8 speed.
+1 light.
Provides immunity to Acid.
Cannot be harmed by Acid.

When activated, it hastens you for d75+75 turns.
Takes 371 to 455 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 93.3%
