Here's a few choice artifacts from a recent character:
Code:
the Long Bow of Istarinam (x5) (+12,+14) <+2> Code:
the Red Dragon Scale Mail of Aiqueth (-2,+5) [24,+29] <+4, +1> Code:
the Set of Gauntlets of Glachirme [3,+21] <+4, +1> Code:
the Ring of Power 'Elkornur' [+1] <+3, +1> |
While randomized Bladeturner and Deathwreaker can turn into insane things, they have this issue of resisting actually getting found in game.
I have come to prefer the smaller jewels, like for example this sweety that instantly made my struggling paladins life easy: Code:
the Full Plate Armour of Ndilos (-3) [62,+9] <+9> |
Body Armor of Speed is always welcome, and getting about 8 times more stealthy is a pleasant side-bonus. It'll make covering resists a bit trickier though.
|
Code:
the Pair of Leather Boots of Varad [2,+18] <+7> |

Not a bad drop from Wormie at way past his natural depth:

Sometimes great randarts are entirely situational. I'm currently trying to shovel my way to victory for about the hundredth time (only harming anyone with the standard shovel bought from the shop). These gloves are great...
Code:
u) the Set of Gauntlets of Valindil [3,+9] Code:
k) the Set of Leather Gloves of Varverog [1,+20] <+2> http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=16689 |
Not a randart, anything but, however damage ain't bad...
Code:

Acid-branded 6d4 weapon that activates for teleport level? Well, it doesn't seem like that could possibly come in useful, but it does also have slow digestion, so hey, maybe it's worth keeping...
Code:
a) the Great Axe of Mingorod (6d4) (+25,+19) [+12] |
warriors palantir
the Palanti*r of Telberen (+0,+8) <+4>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4750 feet (level 95). +4 wisdom. Provides resistance to cold. Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold. Grants telepathy. Radius 4 light. +8 to dam is huge bonus on to_dam on light source ... now, I need something with +attacks for my kobolt warrior :) |
Well, I'm not going to forget wield-testing this one in a hurry:
Code:
the Metal Lamellar Armour of Arwedrind (-3) [58,-18] <+4> {cursed} |

Yep. I was playing a half-orc rogue and only on character level 12 when I found it, so the weight of the armour completely wiped out my mana pool. I couldn't level up because the exp drain had such a severe effect at that early point that I had to keep constantly killing things just to try and prevent my character level from steadily dropping, and every time I tried to move towards the stairs or pick up items I got randomly teleported, plus it was impossible to rest because of the combo of teleportation and aggravation. I died not long afterwards, sadly, but it was an entertainingly mad game while it lasted...

Something for the extreme shoveler ?
the Mattock of Vainarnim (4d8) (-10,+14) [+16] <-9> --------------------------------------------------- Cursed. -9 strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution, infravision, tunneling, attack speed. -45% to searching. Too bad about that -9 attack speed modifier. It could actually make a good replacement for Grond once you're wearing the Iron Crown, otherwise.

Normal 3.5; heres the dump: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=16975
I almost dumped that staff, as I was using this at the time: the Main Gauche 'Antelth' (6d5) (+6,+29) <+2> --------------------------------------------- +2 intelligence, dexterity. +10% to searching. Slays orcs. *Slays* dragons, demons. Branded with lightning. Provides resistance to lightning, nexus, chaos. Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold. Blessed by the gods. Grants the ability to see invisible things. When activated, it causes your next attack upon a monster to confuse it. Takes 65 to 72 turns to recharge. Min Level 50, Max Level 127, Generation chance 6, Power 308, 2.7 lbs Based on Sting. and had this prepared for Morgoth: the Spear 'Mithoth' (2d6) (+8,+29) <+2> --------------------------------------- +2 wisdom, attack speed. Slays evil creatures. Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold. Blessed by the gods. Grants the ability to see invisible things. Min Level 47, Max Level 127, Generation chance 20, Power 284, 5.0 lbs Based on Erebor. which did more damage to evil than a MoD +2 attacks I also had found. Truly a remarkable randart set, usually nothing beats a MoD with 2 attacks or slay evil. |

Not even a randart, but as memorable early game finds go...
Code:
an Executioner's Sword of Extra Attacks (4d5) (+6,+7) <+2> |
Man, this thing doesn't slay giants or have a lightning brand. Pathetic!
Code:
the Dagger of Lacharil (1d4) (+8,+19) [+10] <+2, +1> |
reforged lance (poscheng)
I reforged a 200 000+ power randart based on the One ring into a heavy lance. My initial reaction was clearly disappointment - The Heavy Lance of Eternity (6d9) (+16,+19) {FaSi/pT} - nothing spectactular. But then I took a look at the weight - 60.4 lb - yes!!!! 50% more than the heaviest weapon I've found in this game so far.
Wielded it comes out as this: Code:
Hand #1: The Heavy Lance of Eternity (9d12) (+16,+19) Accuracy (edit) Does ?mundanity reset Weight? I've got one plus ? Weapon branding |
This one should activate for "opera singing"...
Code:
the Arkenstone of Carmen <+3> |
q) the Jewel Encrusted Crown of Gondor [0,+35]
Dropped by Kavlax the Many-Headed at 4350 feet (level 87). Provides resistance to lightning, fire, poison, light. Provides protection from fear. Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold. Sustains constitution. Prevents paralysis. When activated, it reveals to you the extent of an item's magical powers. Takes 211 to 234 turns to recharge at your current speed. i hardly ever use rings of power in my randart games because i almost always default to a single ring of speed and a single ring of damage;
boom! problem solved! the Band of Nardacil <+3, +17> ------------------------------ +3 constitution. +17 speed. Provides resistance to nexus. Cannot be harmed by lightning. Min Level 64, Max Level 127, Generation chance 9, Power 419, 0.2 lbs Random ring of power 419. the Ring of Helwe (+9,+13) <+4, +5, +6, +1> ------------------------------------------- +4 intelligence. +5 wisdom. +6 constitution. +1 stealth. +1 light. So, half troll warrior had some branded weapons for ~250 damage but was using a defender mace (2 stealth) with only ~200 damage as it was the only source of SI.
Then I found this: a) the Flail of Aragona (6d6) (+12,+27) <+4, +1> Dropped by a mature black dragon at 2300 feet (level 46) +4 strength. +4 stealth. +1 light. Slays undead (powerfully), animals. Provides resistance to acid, lightning, light. Cannot be harmed by acid, fire. Slows your metabolism. Speeds regeneration. Grants the ability to see invisible things. Combat info: 3.5 blows/round. With +0 STR and +1 DEX you would get 3.8 blows Average damage/round: 646.1 vs. undead, 401.2 vs. animals, and 319.5 vs. others. Perfect fit. |
A not-so-memorable randart:
Code:
h) the Fur Cloak of Himlor [3,+15] |
I am guessing that is from the phial. The cursed artifacts are deeper than DL 20.
|
Back in the dungeon for no idea how many years. Descenting slowly, and finally found my first randart weapon!
r) the Dagger 'Valadele' (1d4) (-10,-8) {cursed, ??} Dropped by Bolg, Son of Azog at 1000 feet (level 20) You do not know the full extent of this item's powers. It makes it hard to hit anything. It paralyses you every now and then. It occasionally makes a loud noise. Slays undead (powerfully), evil creatures. Cannot be harmed by Acid. Drains experience. When activated, it grants temporary free action for 1d10+10 turns. Takes 42 to 46 turns to recharge at your current speed. Your chance of success is 94.1% I think I'll keep my +9+9 Holy Avenger for now :-D |
Got 5-9 feeling at level 18. Turns out to be this:
Ring of Geluinya <+6, +1, +3, +2>: Found lying on the floor at 900 feet (level 18) +6 wisdom. +1 dexterity. +3 constitution. +2 stealth. +1 searching skill. Provides immunity to cold. Provides resistance to Acid, Lightning, Fire, Light, Dark, Nexus, Nether. Provides protection from fear, confusion. Cannot be harmed by Lightning. Slows your metabolism. Feather Falling. Grants telepathy. Grants the ability to see invisible things. Prevents paralysis. Sustains your life force. When activated, it completely lights up and magically maps the level, detecting all objects. Takes 205 to 325 turns to recharge. Well, Dunadan mage does not need +6 wisdom but I think this is still somewhat better than the ring of resist fire and cold I was wearing. Especially since the activation is not some half-ass detection, it's full Enlightenment! |
well, i went a full game using rods of treasure detection and magic mapping, before i realized that i had been using an Arkenstone as my light for about 80 dungeon levels.
|
Good going continues. First an early potion of Experience (6-9 level) gave me five levels in one go and few levels deeper Mim was nice enough to plug some of the very few resistance holes that the wonderful ring didn't.
Jewel of Shelor <+2, +1, +3> Dropped by Mim, Betrayer of Turin at 1600 feet (level 32) +2 intelligence +1 dexterity +3 stealth Provides resistance to Acid, Sound, Disenchantment. Provides protection from fear, blindness. Sustains constitution. Speeds regeneration. Large Metal Shield of Ithon [12,+16] <+3>: Dropped by Mim, Betrayer of Turin at 1600 feet (level 32) +3 wisdom Provides immunity to Acid. Provides resistance to Lightning, Fire, Dark, Sound. Cannot be harmed by Acid. Slows your metabolism. Character level 31, dungeon level 32. 2 immunities, +4 speed from black market boots, all resistances except poison, chaos, stun. All signs point to getting one-shotted by a drolem very soon... |
You are no longer resistant to poison.
The 6-headed hydra (offscreen) breathes poison. You are poisoned! The 6-headed hydra (offscreen) breathes poison. You die. Well timed, well coordinated attack by these hydras, I give them that. |

u) the Bastard Sword 'Moron' (3d4) (+10,+15) <+3, +2> Dropped by Scatha the Worm at 2700 feet (level 54) +3 wisdom. +2 speed. Slays undead (powerfully), trolls, evil creatures. Branded with weak lightning, acid. Provides resistance to Fire, Dark, Chaos, Disenchantment. Cannot be harmed by Acid. Blessed by the gods (combat bonuses for holy casters). Combat info: 5.5 blows/round. With +1 STR and +0 DEX you would get 5.8 blows Average damage/round: 412.9 vs undead, 311.3 vs trolls and creatures not resistant to acid, 260.8 vs creatures not resistant to lightning and evil creatures, and 209.7 vs. others. |
Theres a Moron in every other randart set :) Another common one is Dildo.

a) the Dagger 'Barfing' (1d4) (+16,+22) <+2>
Found lying on the floor at 1300 feet (level 26) +2 constitution. +2 stealth. Slays dragons (powerfully), undead, animals, evil creatures. Provides resistance to Acid. Cannot be harmed by Acid. When activated, it casts a bolt of fire dealing 9d8 damage for an average of 40.0 damage. Takes 57 to 63 turns to recharge at your current speed. Your chance of success is 53.5% Combat info: 3.4 blows/round. With +0 STR and +2 DEX you would get 3.8 blows Average damage/round: 196.7 vs dragons, 177.1 vs undead, 167.5 vs animals and evil creatures, and 157.8 vs. others. Average thrown damage: 252.3 vs dragons, 151.4 vs undead, 100.9 vs animals and evil creatures, and 50.4 vs. others. lol Barfing, so funny |
If it was bolt of acid, doubly so :D

Must be a big hammer to fit all those runes on it's surface.

My 4.2.3 Warrior just found this in a small vault... not too shabby!
g) the Black Dragon Scale Mail 'Regri' (-2) [16,+42] <+1, +4, +3> Found lying on the floor in a vault at 3050 feet (level 61) +1 strength. +4 tunneling. +3 speed. +1 light. It causes your melee attacks to slay undead. Provides resistance to Acid, Lightning, Fire, Cold, Poison, Light, Dark, Sound, Nexus, Nether, Chaos, Disenchantment. Provides protection from fear, blindness. Sustains strength, dexterity. Grants the ability to see invisible things. Sustains your life force. When activated, it raises your wisdom at the expense of a random attribute. Takes 738 to 1170 turns to recharge at your current speed. Your chance of success is 94.8% |
the Mace of Disruption 'Essereda' (14d8) (+17,+25) <+1, +4>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4900 feet (level 98) +1 strength. +4 wisdom. +1 light. Slays dragons (powerfully), demons (powerfully), undead. Branded with poison. Provides resistance to Lightning, Cold. Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire. Speeds regeneration. Grants the ability to see invisible things. Combat info: 5.0 blows/round. This weapon may benefit from one or more off-weapon brands or slays. Average damage/round: 2874 vs dragons and demons, 1904 vs undead and creatures not resistant to poison, 1419 vs evil creatures, and 933.5 vs. others. 14d8 is highest base damage I have seen. Is there a cap ? Slay evil owing to the paldin spell. |
About the dice cap? Clearly there is no hard cap. What I dont understand is how that got generated. It has way more power than any "non-special" artifact in the game.
|
Power is listed as 612; Deathwreaker has 616. In the same set is also a quarterstaff with power 661 (which I didnt find):
the Quarterstaff 'Mirim' (3d9) (+15,+31) <+3, +4, +2, +6, +1> ------------------------------------------------------------- Six feet of oak which can be wielded in both hands to give a drubbing or block one. +3 strength. +4 wisdom. +2 dexterity. +2 constitution. +6 speed. +1 extra blows. Slays undead (powerfully), dragons (powerfully), animals, evil creatures. Branded with cold. Provides resistance to Acid, Sound, Shards, Disenchantment. Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire. Sustains constitution. Grants the ability to see invisible things. When activated, it breathes a cone of fire with width 20 degrees, dealing 200 damage at the source. Takes 164 to 240 turns to recharge. Your chance of success is 30.3% Min Level 80, Max Level 127, Generation chance 1, Power 661, 15.0 lbs Random hafted of power 661. |
I think the main reason Deathwreaker has the same power value as the 14d8 mace is that slay evil is considered about the same as 2x base dice ?
In which case it is mostly the paladin spell that messes up. And of course, there are the other slays/brands. |
But 14d8 dominates 7d8 with Slay Evil. Yeah, there's no +5 STR and fire immunity, but those are negligible compared to the insane damage.
|
Yeah, so slay evil is valued too highly.
|
I suspect that power as a function of base damage is off.
|
Maybe; ive browsed through some more randart sets, and there was a 1d9 quarterstaff with everything and their dog on it valued > 900. Fire immunity, telepathy, +2 blows, all great but its just another stat stick for a mage.

the White Dragon Scale Mail 'Imlon' (-2) [14,+19] <+5, +3, +1> -------------------------------------------------------------- +5 intelligence. +3 wisdom. +5 dexterity. +3 constitution. +3 speed. +1 light. Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold, poison, light, dark, sound, shards, nether, disenchantment. Provides protection from fear, blindness. Sustains intelligence. Feather Falling. the Long Bow of Rhuorim (x5) (+19, +31)
Slays evil creatures That is crazy! 235 damage per shot with ordinary arrows. 435 with seeker arrows of wounding. |
I dont know what the chances for "slay evil" on a bow are. I have seen the occasional branding bow, maybe 2 or 3 in dozens of games. This is the first time I have encontered a slay evil bow. Thankfully it also has good values for multiplier and damage, so a post on the braggart thread was in order.
|
I would have posted damage infos for various arrows in my quiver as part of my braggart post had I found said launcher. As such, my Hobbit ranger throws pebbles in your direction in jealousy. And the launcher has +4 stealth, +3 Wisdom, two important sustains, and confusion protection. To have so much useful utility and ridiculous damage; I mean that is seriously bonkers. Well, I guess it makes up for the ring of Leren you found earlier (though as I scroll further down the thread I see you also got the 14d8 uber mace, which should honestly have a power rating of 1000). At least my ho-hum heavy crossbow I recently acquired on DL34 has +8 speed and slays dragons. What's the power rating of your launcher?
|
The reason I didnt post damage numbers is that the bow was originally found by a rogue. However, I proceeded to play a ranger with the same randart set and here is the dump:
http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=24840 The highest damage vs evil I had was shy of 1200, you can see the damage of my last quiver in the dump, basically everything does 1k vs evil. Edit: power is 289 |
a) the Lance 'Ularu' (7d8) (+9,+27) <+4>
Found lying on the floor at 1650 feet (level 33) +4 intelligence. Slays dragons (powerfully). Provides resistance to Light. Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire. Sustains your life force. Blessed by the gods (combat bonuses for holy casters). Combat info: 2.8 blows/round. With +3 STR and +0 DEX you would get 3.1 blows With +0 STR and +2 DEX you would get 3.3 blows Average damage/round: 744.1 vs dragons and 295.2 vs. others. And yes, I am a paladin. Love it when the game gets cliche. |
Not that amazing as some other posts in this thread, but here's what I found in the Touhou mod:
Code:
The Green Dragon Scale Mail of Heart's Desire (-2) [30,+21] (+3 to speed) {SpWiChSl;PoLiHoNt;SiLv~Good~DtYk(Ch} |
Here is a bizarre item I found - it maps and lights an entire level - but I can't read any scrolls because of the -3 light :/
There are some other nice aspects to it, and some other not so nice aspects... Code:
l) the Arkenstone of Gelwilda <+3, +5, +2, -3> (charging) {cursed} |
Interesting item - presumably you could use it if you somehow got >3 light from elsewhere ?
