Wow, I am surprised the damage output is so low, considering he has 49 (!) off-weapon damage bonus in total and 2 extra attacks.

I'm sure it would have been more if his strength and dex were higher, but his strength in particular was low.

so low??? 721 to others is insane damage! My warriors typically make due with 450 damage to others by the endgame.

That Pendant of Nendiri is a warrior's wet dream. That is a happy find.

LordRotharoth May 31, 2020 02:58

the Metal Cap of Anteil [3,+40] <+2>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 2250 feet (level 45)

PowerWyrm June 4, 2020 16:28

trap immunity is now vanilla e.g., Boots of Wormtongue .

gglibertine June 29, 2020 18:27

Well, this ought to come in handy for my dwarf priest:

The Ring of Arathros <+3, +6, +1, +2>
Dropped by Ufthak of Cirith Ungol at 900 feet (level 18)

+3 strength.
+6 wisdom.
+1 constitution.

nice find indeed.

Estie July 3, 2020 17:46

the Mace of Disruption of Ladrin (12d8) (+11,+12)
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4850 feet (level 97)

Slays undead (powerfully), demons, giants, evil creatures.
Provides resistance to chaos.
Cannot be harmed by acid, fire.

Grotug July 6, 2020 12:50

Estie, mind posting a char dump with the weapon? I'd like to see just how bad ass it is in action.

Estie July 7, 2020 13:07

http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=23701

It was found by a priest and there dont seem to be any items giving extra blows, so the numbers are not all that impressive.

Estie July 7, 2020 20:00

Another priest just found this sweet stat stick on the dive:

a) the Morning Star of Bregion (2d6) (+11,+25) [+8] <+6, +5>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 3450 feet (level 69)

+6 constitution.
+5 infravision.
Slays dragons (powerfully), demons (powerfully), giants, animals,
evil creatures.
Branded with weak acid.
Provides immunity to Fire, Cold.
Provides resistance to Acid, Lightning, Dark, Disenchantment.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
Feather Falling. Prevents paralysis. Blessed by the gods (combat
bonuses for holy casters).

When activated, it heals 35% of max HP (minimum 300HP), cut
damage, and cures stunning, poisoning, blindness, and confusion.
Takes 362 to 444 turns to recharge at your current speed.
Your chance of success is 94.0%

Estie July 12, 2020 11:49

a) the Mace of Disruption of Gwinim (13d8) (+6,+18) <+1, +3>
Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4850 feet (level 97)

+1 strength.
+1 constitution.
+3 infravision.
+3 tunneling.
+1 attack speed.
Slays undead.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
Speeds regeneration. Grants the ability to see invisible things.
Aggravates creatures nearby.

Combat info:
7.0 blows/round.
This weapon may benefit from one or more off-weapon brands or
slays.
Average damage/round: 3733.8 vs demons, 2472.4 vs undead, 1841.7
vs evil creatures, and 1211 vs. others.

Slaying evil (and demons) thanks to the spell and attempting to enchant it further doesnt seem to work - a few dozen casts only increased the initial +5 to +6.

The full dump:

http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=23717

Grotug July 13, 2020 22:04

The Mace of Disruption of the balance of the game. :) that is ridiculous damage. You're literally doing 3X the damage I do in a good warrior game.

Sky July 14, 2020 03:33

i think you have a winner there.

drquicksilver July 14, 2020 11:41

Can anyone explain those numbers? From the character sheet Estie posted, the total melee damage of Estie's weapon including all bonuses from equipment is

13d8 + 72 = 130.5 average per blow.

7 blows makes 913.5 per round, not 1211.

So that's off a fair bit. But even more the slay undead version should only multiply the 13d8 so it should be:

(13*4.5*3 + 72)*7 = 1732.5 per round, not 2472.4.

What am I missing?

Probably the other items the character is wearing, i.e. a =+15 dam and a "+5 Weaponmastery.

I'm also trying to wrap my head around it slays undead but does more damage to Demons, guessing that's a "disruption" thing?

thapper July 14, 2020 12:40

I think the damage calculation includes criticals and maybe something more as well?

No, the damage ring, weapon mastery amulet and all other EQ with combat bonuses on are included in the +72 shown on the character dump (as well as the bonus from high strength etc).

The demon damage being higher than the undead will be the priest/paladin spell you can cast which gives you a temporary off-weapon "slays demons powerfully" effect.

Estie July 14, 2020 15:37

I buffed up before taking the snapshot, with heroism (spell), berserk strength (potion) and bless (which only affects to hit, not damage). Im not sure what exactly those do. I have since rolled a fresh randart set, but if someone really wants me to, I can reload the old one and post unbuffed numbers.

Edit: also the spells that cause weapons to slay evil and demons, from the last green book.

The original game calculation will include criticals, which make a MASSIVE difference on a 40lb weapon like a MoD. For a dagger, almost nothing.

Also they will inlclude the inherent + To Dam for a character with potentially 18/220 STR, which is also quite significant.

Estie August 7, 2020 11:36

I didnt find this, but I have never seen a better piece of body armor:

the Black Dragon Scale Mail of Tirimbar (-2) [16,+26] <+10, +1>
---------------------------------------------------------------
A suit of utterly black scales, against which no metal or wood can rest.

+10 speed.
+1 attack speed.
Provides resistance to Acid, Light.
Grants telepathy.

When aimed, it breathes a cone of acid with width 20 degrees, dealing 120
damage at the source.
Takes 50 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 84.2%

Min Level 71, Max Level 127, Generation chance 4, Power 486, 12.0 lbs
Random dragon armor of power 486.

Grotug August 7, 2020 12:17

Wow, we need to have a competition with that as the starting equipment. :D and maybe 5 ?DD scrolls.

Estie August 9, 2020 09:48

Now _this_ I found:

the Cutlass of Regol (1d8) (+6,+7)
Dropped by a blacklock mage at 1350 feet (level 27)

Cannot be harmed by Acid.

Combat info:
1.6 blows/round.
With +2 STR and +0 DEX you would get 2.0 blows
With +0 STR and +3 DEX you would get 2.0 blows
Average damage/round: 39.5.

And no, I havent edited out any lines.

gglibertine August 11, 2020 13:50

I killed Grishnakh, and all he dropped were two shovels and a ring of slow digestion. Five minutes later, a terrified yeek dropped this:

a) the Long Sword of Ithon (3d5) (+10,+11) [+10] <+1>
Dropped by a terrified yeek at 650 feet (level 13)

+1 wisdom.
Slays undead (powerfully), dragons (powerfully), demons
(powerfully), giants, orcs, animals, evil creatures.
Branded with weak acid.
Provides resistance to Light, Nether.
Provides protection from confusion.
Cannot be harmed by Acid.
Slows your metabolism. Feather Falling. Speeds regeneration.
Grants the ability to see invisible things. Blessed by the gods
(combat bonuses for holy casters).

Combat info:
1.0 blows/round.
With +2 STR and +0 DEX you would get 1.1 blows
With +0 STR and +2 DEX you would get 1.1 blows
Average damage/round: 74.6 vs undead, dragons, and demons, 53.1 vs
giants and orcs, 42.3 vs animals, evil creatures, and creatures
not resistant to acid, and 31.5 vs. others.

Pete Mack August 11, 2020 19:08

To be fair, a terrified yeek *is* more dangerous than Grishnak.

bdgamer August 11, 2020 21:36

Still fairly early, but already picked up a couple of good randarts with my new rogue...

The first found off of... A terrified yeek, of course!

Code:

a) the Dagger of Valduin (3d4) (+14,+21) <+3, +1, +5>
Dropped by a terrified yeek at 800 feet (level 16)

    +3 strength.
    +1 stealth.
    +5 tunneling.
    +1 light.
    Slays undead, trolls.
    Branded with cold, lightning.
Provides resistance to Acid, Lightning, Fire, Chaos.
    Cannot be harmed by Acid.
    Prevents paralysis.

    Combat info:
    4.7 blows/round.
With +0 STR and +1 DEX you would get 5.0 blows
Average damage/round: 408.8 vs undead, trolls, creatures not
resistant to cold, and creatures not resistant to lightning, and
    328.9 vs. others.
Average thrown damage: 264.2 vs undead, trolls, creatures not
resistant to cold, and creatures not resistant to lightning, and
    88 vs. others.

Code:

b) the Short Bow of Dregolvas (x4) (+19,+28) <+4, +2>
Found lying on the floor at 1250 feet (level 25)

    +4 wisdom.
    +2 constitution.
    +2 shooting power.
    Branded with poison.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
    Sustains constitution.
    Grants telepathy.

that's a real winner

Ugramoth August 12, 2020 05:14

Yet another HE mage winner. One thing I did not find is this
Quote:

the Shining Dragon Scale Mail of Morin (-2) [32,+40] <+3, +2, +4>
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A suit of scales shining like a beacon of Light even as it greedily sucks the
energy away from everything that glows into Dark insatiate.

+3 strength.
+2 dexterity.
+4 constitution.
+3 stealth.
+4 infravision.
It brands your melee attacks with weak lightning.
Provides immunity to Acid.
Provides resistance to Lightning, Fire, Cold, Poison, Light, Dark, Shards,
Nether, Chaos, Disenchantment.
Provides protection from blindness, confusion.
Slows your metabolism. Prevents paralysis. Sustains your life force.

When activated, it allows you to breathe balance for 250 damage.
Takes 196 to 288 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 98.2%

Min Level 100, Max Level 127, Generation chance 11, Power 851, 18.0 lbs
Random dragon armor of power 851.
No speed or telepathy but just about anything else.

This I *did* find:
Quote:

the Ring of Ellon <+3, +2>
--------------------------
+3 strength.
+2 intelligence.
+2 tunneling.
+3 movement speed.
Provides resistance to Acid, Cold, Light, Dark, Shards, Nether.
Cannot be harmed by Lightning.
Prevents paralysis.

When activated, it creates a lightning bolt (that always beams) with damage
6d6.
Takes 41 to 45 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 99.0%

Min Level 43, Max Level 127, Generation chance 15, Power 257, 0.2 lbs
Random ring of power 257.
May not seem much but found that early on and that movement +3 is just insane, for mage especially. Could run circles around death quasit and rain bolts on it.

MITZE August 13, 2020 03:11

1 Attachment(s)
FAA randart; actually kind of hard to fit in because speed is hard to accumulate, but maybe with two good rings?

Attachment 1894

bdgamer August 16, 2020 20:07

Didn't find this, but might be the most amazing artifact armor I have seen.

Code:

the Multi-Hued Dragon Scale Mail of Ardoren (-2) [45,+21] <+2, +3, +12>
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A suit of scales that throbs with angry energies; it takes all your energy to
master the Elements fighting an endless war trapped inside.

+2 stealth.
+3 searching skill.
+12 speed.
Provides resistance to Acid, Lightning, Fire, Cold, Poison, Light, Dark, Nexus,
Nether.
Provides protection from fear, blindness, confusion.
Prevents paralysis.

When activated, it attempts to magically enhance a weapon both to-hit and
to-dam.
Takes 180 to 264 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 97.5%

Min Level 98, Max Level 127, Generation chance 6, Power 701, 21.0 lbs
Random dragon armor of power 701.

gglibertine August 20, 2020 17:01

I'd have liked to have found this, since I might not be dead now:

the Maul of Belent (5d4) (+18,+16) [+6] <+3, +2>
------------------------------------------------
A long-handled hammer with a heavy head.

+3 strength.
+2 dexterity.
+2 attack speed.
Slays undead (powerfully), dragons (powerfully), demons (powerfully), giants,
trolls, orcs, animals, evil creatures.
Branded with weak cold.
Provides immunity to Fire.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
Speeds regeneration. Sustains your life force.

When activated, it teleports you one level up or down.
Takes 123 to 165 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 89.9%

Ugramoth August 27, 2020 05:22

Worst level ever

Got 'something worthwhile' feeling on DL18. Good! Early artifact!
Turned out to be this:

Cloack 'Eluil' [1, -14] <-4> {cursed}:
Found on the floor at 900 feet.

It makes you vulnerable to fire but resistant to cold
It paralyses you every now and then.
-4 Intelligence
Feather falling

Activates for 6d8 frost bolt

Later, found a chest. Hopefully there is at least something useful inside.
A ring! Nice!... Or not:

Band of Vathimbar [-22] {cursed}

It periodically turns your skin to stone
It paralyses you every now and then.

Sustains strength, constitution.
Aggravates creatures nearby.

Pete Mack August 27, 2020 21:26

I dunno. I still think Beruthiel and Mormegil are worse. It'd be very hard to top -10 speed.

Weapons with -3EA.

Ugramoth August 28, 2020 08:26

Yeah, some individual artifacts are worse but it was kind of 'funny' finding 2 dismal things in a row. Besides, unless you uncurse it, that ring is rather complete: It paralyses you, invites everyone to come and hit you and with -22 AC makes sure nobody misses you. And if you wear that cloak, you might be just stupid enough to put it on.

Anyway, bit later RNG gods turned friendlier:
http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthr...061#post148061

bdgamer September 11, 2020 22:23

I present this lovely suit of armor for consideration in the truly awful category.

Code:

n) the Hard Leather Armour of Unulos (-1) [16,-16] <-5> {cursed}
Dropped by Golfimbul, the Hill Orc Chief at 900 feet (level 18)

It makes you vulnerable to fire attacks, but resistant to cold.
It occasionally makes a loud noise.
    -5 searching skill.
    Provides protection from fear.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
Prevents paralysis.  Prevents teleportation.  Drains experience.

bdgamer September 12, 2020 22:45

And this amazing, ridiculous shovel...

Code:

the Shovel 'Manfaere' (1d2) (+15,+15) [+19] <+3, +4, +2, +1>
Dropped by Bullroarer the Hobbit at 450 feet (level 9)

    +3 stealth.
    +4 tunneling.
    +2 speed.
    +1 attack speed.
    +1 light.
Slays dragons (powerfully), demons (powerfully), orcs, animals,
    evil creatures.
    Branded with weak lightning.
Provides resistance to Acid, Lightning, Shards, Nether.
Feather Falling.  Blessed by the gods (combat bonuses for holy
    casters).

    Combat info:
    3.0 blows/round.
With +2 STR and +0 DEX you would get 3.3 blows
With +0 STR and +1 DEX you would get 3.3 blows
Average damage/round: 80.7 vs dragons and demons, 70.8 vs orcs, 66
vs animals, evil creatures, and creatures not resistant to
    lightning, and 60.9 vs. others.

Pete Mack September 12, 2020 23:25

One of the standard challenge games is killing Morgoth with a shovel. You are well on your way....

Estie September 15, 2020 20:55

the Fur Cloak of Aglor (+2,+5) [3,+21]
Dropped by Bullroarer the Hobbit at 550 feet (level 11)

Provides immunity to Fire.
Provides resistance to Acid.
Cannot be harmed by Acid, Fire.
Sustains strength.

When activated, it grants temporary resistance to acid,
electricity, fire, cold and poison for 1d20+20 turns.
Takes 82 to 100 turns to recharge.
Your chance of success is 92.1%

Good for level 11; everything on this one is useful.
