[PosChengband] About vampires

Ok, like 3 days ago I was on some sort of a hype and decided that I want to play as a vampire force-traner to beat everything out of monsters with might and force. I was thinking "wow, so cool would be to play as a vampire, because vampire can morph into some forms, like a bat, to fly fast.. and there's gaze also.. and evolution, right?"

Well, wrong!

Because I discovered for myself that there's a vampire race and there's a vampires among monsters, and they differs A LOT. While monster vampire is a badass, that can morph, evolve and dominate foes, vampire race is a bit pathetic when comparing to its monster brother.

I think they should be somewhat united. Maybe taking all vampire monster powers to race will be too much, but at least some early game morphing and gaze would be the right amount of modifying current vampire race so that it would be fun to play with it. What do you think?

And they both kind of suck. At least the normal mode Vampire gets to pick a good class.

What's wrong with the standard vampire? +int, str & con, good device, melee & stealth, a bunch of handy resists. It's almost perfect for a rogue & has more hps then most +int races if you mage it.

In my opinion it does not reflect vampire as they are by the lore. In that regard vampire monster is closer to that (morphing and evolution) rather than vampire race.

I'm fine with it the way it is, you can choose either version after all. If it helps you can think off it in terms of pure-bloods & infected vampires I guess.

Perhaps I was wrong, I seemed to remember having an awful experience with them.

Maybe I will play one if Chris figures out why I can't compile his game.

Thats a cool way to think about it. Kind of like how theres room in the game for both draconians and dragon monsters.

Vampire monsters are super fun, but tricky to get going. I had a lot of fatalities in the wilderness before I finally figured out how to manage avoiding light and staying fed.

Vampire race works good with melee classes, but playable as mage classes too. You get good stealth, some nice resists, and free minor healing from the bite power. But they present some challenges too.
