I have tested this a bit, and been unable to reproduce it - so far monsters just attack the decoy as intended.

OK, thanks - they should be attacking the decoy and destroying it. The principle of "monster always attacks the player is built deep into the code, and I clearly haven't found all the places.

It seems that I was lying upthread - the decoy vanishes if the player gets more than maximum view distance (20 grids away)
Otherwise it's only if it's attacked, but it looks...

Interesting question, and I would have to check the exact monster movement code to find out. This is why this new stuff is out *way* before the release of the next official version :)

Monsters will always go for the decoy, wherever it is. This makes it seem very powerful, but on the flip side any attack will destroy it, and the monsters will be back to going for the player.
