This is true, and plenty of games have gone that route with e.g. giant fish that eat you if you stray too far, or an invisible sniper that one-shots you, etc. They're a bit immersion-breaking; I honestly rather like the solution I implemented as it implies, sure, you got away from the fight, but in doing so you've given up what you were fighting
for.
