Advice for stat gain

Ok, i've been reading about this period of the game called "stat-gain". As I understand it, its where you farm levels for stat potions, and it occurs at around floor 35. Am I correct? Well, i'm at level 37 now, so I though i'd ask. What level is the best one to farm, and do I just look for spawns, or can monsters drop them too?

No "farming" anything. That area is just an relatively safe area where you can find stat-gain potions. Best level for potions would be 3000'+, but that is dangerous area to be, usually if you can survive 3000' you should dive to 4000' to get RoS-depth.

"Stat gain" used to be a well-defined phase of the game where our overly-cautious ancestors (a.k.a. us, five-ten years ago) would hang out at 1600'-1800' until our important stats were maxed before we timidly started taking down stairs again.

Honestly it's not that important. Grab stat potions whenever you can, and you might consider slowing down your dive for a bit until you've geared up some more (especially getting your CON and whatever you use for damage dealing (STR/DEX or INT or WIS) up a bit), but there's no need to stop your dive altogether.
