 Too late now, but the lesson here should be that there is never really any good reason to fight hounds, especially of the Hell/Plasma/Time variety. They only give middling XP for how dangerous they are, and they don't drop anything. Once I start finding staves or scrolls of banishment, I don't hesitate to use them as soon as I see a large pack of Hell/Plasma/Time hounds that I can't/won't sidestep. Better luck next time! (And better decisions  )
