bad new line termination or wide characters for Nar the dwarf?

I'm getting really weird messages while fighting nar the dwarf. His character description is strange too (He was friends with "King Thr r")

Fighting I see great stuff like:

Nar, the Dwarf sets off a Dblinding flash
You are blind. s    o   a D
You hit it.    s    o   a D

Ah, crud, while trying to copy this in, I died too (accidentally hit arrows in the wrong window). Insult to injury.

There's a bug along those lines in the Mac port. It has something to do with the special characters in his name; you'll see similar issues when fighting mumakil or Ar-Pharazon or the like. Nar (and Smeagol) are the first monsters to show up that will cause the issue though.

Can you just confirm your platform - Mac OSX? Carbon or Cocoa version?

OSX 10.6.8. I assume it's the Cocoa version (since I thought Carbon got dropped ages ago).

Nope, it's Carbon. Carbon's officially deprecated but the libraries are still available -- for now. The Cocoa port, last I heard, wasn't quite ready for business yet. More importantly though, it should handle those characters properly.
