Skyrim, angband style

I'm playing Skyrim, with rule that the game is restarted (including intro sequence) after any death. Conclusion? Skyrim is harder. If you simply follow the quest lines dropped in front of you eventually be f2f in a confined space with monsters who can damage 50% or more of HP in one attack. Fumble the controls and thats it! First person view makes it easy to get disoriented and run into a dead end, and no "panic buttons" like destruction or teleport spells.

It makes it *much* more exciting though.

Anyone else tried this?

Whether I want it to or not, dying always greatly diminishes my enjoyment of a game, thanks to Angband. I wasn't always this way, but now lots of games that shouldn't get ruined. On the other hand, until that first death, or sometimes two, the game is much more enjoyable.

I'm not so hardcore as to reload and start over, especially rather scripted games, but all my 'regular' games I add a number to my saveslot indicating number of deaths. For example, I beat Amnesia with 2 deaths, and Stalker-Cherynobyl with 5. Each death dropped my overall engagement and fun... but not so-much as to start over. If the game isn't really good I often just stop playing forever.

But isn't it much like oblivion where you can save at almost any time, and just reload that savefile?

Sort of off/on topic, but when I play XCOM (if you remember this one, you're probably old ) I always play it "iron man". When someone dies, they're gone.

I would figure it'd get really annoying in a story heavy game though ?

Well, there's Fire Emblem, where if you get enough of the main characters killed off, you'll wind up with an army of generic joes... sometimes with the same names as other generic joes that had been killed off previously!

Tell me about it! I can only replay after a day or two away and with the sound off, so I can listen to radio or TV.

I just have to agree, there is something about not dying in the game that you are playing that makes it all the more enjoyable, fun to play and challenging. Though the problem might be that some people, who are probably not as heavy of a gamer than other would prefer to die in-game rather than end everything and start anew just like that. But to say the least, it becomes a better game when you are living on a single life alone.
