I've gone all my Angband life without inscriptions, now that i got !d i'm fine. I guess i would use @ inscriptions more if i played more mages.

2 Paladins dead, first in town, second to a basilisk that somehow double moved me.

bloody hell, two more paladins dead, one to the same mob: basilisk. And i had detected it, i popped a Spd, fired all my ammo, breathed acid on it, activated a Acid Bolt artifact, and STILL died.
The basilisk really is the low-level Terrasque; it moves double speed, breathes poison, AND paralyzes. I realize now how i lost a character to a basilisk, i had no FA.

Reading all your 4.1.3 AAR makes me nostalgic for the version. I've been torturing myself in 4.2.1 lately. For some reason I can't get 4.1.3 to run on my computer (Mac) anymore (I get an error that it can't write the lore file--or some such write error). I sort of agree with you that it is the definitive Angband version.

Nick--sounds like the model for storing permanent data on OSX is broken. Mucking around with file names in a supposedly programmatically controlled directory just isn't a good look.

Would it be sufficiently easy a matter to multiply @ health by 2/3 in 4.1.3 ?
This way the difficulty gets increased without the 1-room level feeling of 4.2. If anyone would care to do that, I´d definitely play it. |

I guess in hindsight the thing would have been to include the version in the lore file. Maybe for 4.3.

Inscribing an item with ‘=g’:
This marks an item as ‘always pick up’. This is sometimes useful for picking up ammunition after a shootout. If there is a number immediately after the ‘g’, then the amount picked up automatically will be limited. If you have inscribed a spellbook with ‘=g4’ and have four or more copies in your pack, you will not automatically pick up any more copies when you have the ‘pickup if in inventory’ option enabled. If you have three copies in your pack with that inscription and happen to find a pile of two copies, you’ll automatically pick up one so there are four in the pack. this does not work at least for daggers.
