Delete your .raw files as other people have recommended. The 'home' for the other races is just for aesthetics - you will always start in Hobbiton.

Is the sting spell supposed to have an exploit? (It does, and I like it!) Even with 14 HP, killing the dunlending agent is pretty easy. (If you are lucky, you can do it with 0HP.)
I'm hoping King of the wood elves is as vulnerable, if I ever get that far. (My trouble is Hobbiton doesn't have enough !CLW, and I can't afford more than 2 Waybreads for an alternative.)

Not that I mind, however. Otherwise, that mage would never make it past cl 1...

Nope - let me guess. It'd be the same reason you don't learn it no matter how many times you cast it... I suspect I'm returning the wrong boolean value.

Worked like a charm - once !

Actually, I didn't delete the old .raw files, but moved them away, and did a CRC32 on the new vs the old, and they showed up as exactly the same.

Then I switched off ("unangband.ini.OFF") the .INI file that I had copied over from pre3, and things worked fine. Ran both .INI trough Winmerge, and the only differences that came up where
- the mouse settings, which didn't make a difference, and
- the term window settings, as I didn't set up windows 2-6 for the quick test

After setting up term 2-6 (roughly) like I had them before, character generation failed again!
I'm attaching the .INI file here ...

Zero mana cost spells?

I am playing an elf druid. I was attacking a fairy with sting and noticed it was not costing me any mana. This allowed me to *eventually* kill it. I cast 'Lightning spark' and it uses up mana, but sting appears to be free.

Your Familiar (allied) (hidden) hides in the water.
Your Familiar (allied) emerges from the water.

Prevents you from resting next to water as this counts as a disturbance. ally_messages is off.

Targeting that does not target ... :

as one can see in the attached pic, I targeted the Ogre Shaman when zapping a rod at it. Yet, the "target path" shows that it passes right of it, and so does the lightning beam ...

The druid's tangleroot and briarpatch spells seem to be bugged, they do quite a lot of damage if you are *not* near nature or water. Just had a look at the corresponding code in spell2.c and it looks like the "damage" (that is used as an indicator for entanglement power) isn't cleared before the handling of GF_TANGLE is aborted when the close-to-nature check fails.

Orcish Pick seems bugged !!

Tried an Identify (shop service magic shop Rivendell) on an "Orcish Pick (of Digging?) worth 11500 gold pieces (1d3) {excellent}". Result:
