newbie qs
I downloaded latest version of Sil about a week ago after watching silstreamer's vids. I copied his Beefcake Artistry build and lots of dead @'s have resulted
![]() A few questions: 1. Is there some kind of correlation with artifact gen that gets thrown up with actual and min depth? In other words, the bigger the difference btwn actual and min depth, the greater the likelihood of artefacts turn up? 2. Finding difficulty in deciding what combat abilities to take. The general ones like Crowd Fighting, Zone of Control, Parry/Riposte etc are understandable. It's the Power / Finesse route which seem mutually exclusive. Is it dependent on what artefact weapon drops you get? Or if say you find a greatsword and go Power/Charge regardless if an artefact shortsword turns up late in the game. |

Artefact creation is dependent on depth among other things, so if you are deeper earlier or even repeat some very deep floors you will generally get more of them. Endgame opponents may even have a hoard or drop more than one artefact or artefact-quality item and if you spend more time there you have more opportunity to face them. I don't believe min depth figures at all in this. You can try to stay fairly flexible for a while (with a balanced build) and then decide for one way a bit later maybe upon finding your first great weapon. Even having a swap heavy armour and weapon on a light build is quite common. Just don't try to get everything at once, there are many cool and working combinations and you will have the opportunity to try them all out, if you keep playing. There are plenty of non-melee builds as well. |

Yeah I did that build as a joke lol.
Maybe I should do another straight-up fighter video series w/ dodging+flanking, that seems to be the current metagame of "basic easy progress" and it puts more of a focus on monster movement.

Flanking characters are my current kick too, so I'd love to see this as well.

Do you guys find flanking to be more powerful than your basic corridor fighting tactic? Or just different, interesting, and fun?

I think the 'interesting and fun' part should not go understated, either - if you're thinking about what you're doing and it's an interesting challenge to optimize, you're less likely to get sloppy and make mistakes due to boredom/low energy/disinterest.
