Unangband: disabling fog of war

So I'm trying to figure out how to get Unangband to now show grey x's on all the squares I haven't seen. I realize that using the V strategy of a black square is ambigous in Un (due to pits and whatnot) but I still just have a really hard time seeing open passages otherwise.

Is there any way to do this? I tried to interact with the visuals but couldn't find one for "unseen square". I also didn't find a config option or anything.

Any ideas?

It has something to do with trap/monster detection; find some options (possibly in "user interface") about showing x's on spaces which have not yet been trap/monster-detected.

Thanks! I found them--there were two options under (3) Disturbance--mark trap and monster detection.

Despite being at a disadvantage for turning those off... I am having a *much* easier time navigating my dwarven warrior around.

I suspect I'm going to switch by default to the Angband way of showing this due to the feedback on this one.

So I have found one serious bug so far:

If you're using a sling, then the only things you *aren't* allowed to shoot are sling bullets and rocks, whether you put them in the quiver or not.

You can throw them with (v) but you can't shoo them with (f).

Bows seem to work fine--I haven't tried xbows yet.

For those not familiar with Unangband, the shoo command allows you to attempt to terrify insects - particular dragon flies. Affect insects will not bother the player for 2d4 turns.

(The issue was that most sling ammo was missing the THROWING flag - which is required to be able to sling it. Fixed in SVN, but I suspect this'll cause balance problems as it'll make it too effective when thrown).

Damn, I played for years and never realized this

I better try it again, and dive hell-bent for Smaug...
