Rings

What is it exactly with rings?

1. Not even the black market seems to be interested in my 2 beautiful unidentified marble rings (tried)

2. interestingly the black market is interested in buying my ring of accuracy, but not my ring of the mouse, which I am both wearing.

3. By the way I am stuck with a whole series of {??} and {tried} stuff in home, but am not able to identify it. No scrolls, potions, staves or wand of identification in the stores.

the ring of the mouse is worth less than 0 gold, so no shop will buy it.
if you are lucky enough to find a ring of the mouse with a lot of +DEX, and very little -dmg, say, (0,-6) [+4] then they might buy it for a few gold.

you will find scrolls of identify in the dungeon, and if you are a mage, rogue, priest, paladin or ranger, you can cast the identify spell. if you are a warrior, no.

every item's enchantment is made up of one or more magical runes. once you identify that rune, you will always recognize it. So, once you wear your ring of the mouse, you automatically learn the rune of Dexterity, which means if you find a ring of Dexterity, you will immediately recognize it.

ID as it is now is a snowball effect. Shortly you will recognize all the runes.

As for staves, potions, scrolls, etc, you need to use each one once. Again, if you learn one of these, you will recognize all the next ones you find.

A ring of the mouse with high +dex and low -dam can actually increase damage for melee characters. I've used them many times. Difference is that you only keep them until you find a ring of dex or dam that's better.

For pure casters, we keep them until we find rings of speed, rings of power, or (if stealth is already high) maybe rings of escaping. The fact that characters (pure casters, especially) will double-fist rings of the mouse down to speed ring depth shows that stealth is severely undervalued in the shops. Stealth should cost nearly as much as speed; given it's exponential benefit (speed benefit grown sub-linearly), maybe it should cost even more than speed.

Yes but once you decide to attack a mob, stealth stop having any value.

Entirely false. Stealth continues to apply for all sleeping monsters.

The ability to kill a monster while other nearby monsters remain asleep does have value.

As for the moment I am trying to kill every monster on every level, this has actually been very useful to me, being able to kill 1 or more creatures in one go, rather than getting a whole horde on my back at once.

{tried} rings should always be sellable in the magic shop (or black market.) I don't know why you're unable to sell it.

Derakon: yes. But nowhere near Speed value.

Pete: it has a value of below 0. The store thinks its cursed (as curses were previously).
If he finds a Mouse with enough gold value because of the +Dex, and not so much gold value penalty because of the -dmg, then he can sell it.
