The ladder

How do you get your character higher up the ladder? Or rather how does the ladder pick who is the highest? Is it character level, items the character has or turn count? Or all three together?

Default sort order is by character level, and experience points when levels are the same.

There are close to 2400 characters on the vanilla ladder now. Of the top 50, only one is from 3.1.2. A lot has changed in the game, even since 3.0.9. Is there a way to sort by version? I would very much like to browse dumps from the current version and I'd rather not have to sift through versions 2.x and 3.0.x.

Once you do your initial search, you can sort by clicking "updated". That won't allow you to see all 3.1 winners, but it will let you see the more recently posted which are presumably mostly with the most recent versions.
