I recently discovered the album 'Fetch' by 'Melt banana', some japanese band. Hard to describe, kind of an experimental punk/melodic/noise/electroninc/pop thing. I have no idea what they're singing about, but it sounds pretty cool

Here's a wild one from a Japanese band called Boris:

Most recently I listened to Einhorn's. "Voices of Light", a soundtrack written in the 1990s for "Passion of Joan of Arc" from 1928. Great choral music for a brilliant early movie.

Hugo--my trouble with much recent metal is that the chord progressions are seriously hackneyed. The one you link is a case in point: excellent guitar playing, but the tune doesn't remotely compare to (say) Thunderstruck or Technical Difficulties. Those are genuinely interesting musically--as is much Van Halen. TwoCello's cover of Thunderstruck demonstrates just how interesting a tune it really is--not to mention making an utterly hilarious music video.

Anyone have the new Twin Peaks soundtracks yet? I'm trying to decide whether I can hold out until Christmas or if I should just order them now. If I understand correctly there's one album that's the in-show performances and one that's the Angelo Badalamenti/Lynch atmospheric stuff.

It's not recent, but I thought this group might appreciate "Bashing the Balrog" by Leslie Fish.

^ From Crash Bandicoot 3 - Prehistoric OST. Definitely a fitting song for the antics of PCB.

Not sure how easy it is to appreciate if you don't understand the original language, but the translation at least gets the "this is metal" message across, I think. |
