Ready voor Sauron/Morgoth?
In the past I've been playing Moria for a long time. I was watching The Hobbit and then I remembered that I used to play Moria, so googled and found Angband. And again I have to watch that I don't spent too much time on it.
![]() I love all the unique characters and all the unique artifacts that you can find. Although it's quite a challenge to figure out which combinations of gear is ideal. Meanwhile I've reached lvl 50 (dungeon lvl 97), met all the Uniques and wonder if I'm up to the challenge of facing Sauron/Morgoth? And also if I'm using the right gear for this challenge? If anyone could give me some advise, that would be great! http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=16891 |

Good enough I guess. Rift is my spell of choice for the purpose (melee and archery damage is low). 19 mana potions should suffice. Good luck!

i would say so, im not a mage specialist though.
you have enough HP and you have *TONS* of speed options. The only thing you need now is enough damage. Never underestimate how many hits it actually takes to kill Morgoth. Its something i always underestimate how much HP he has (lots). You have the speed, you have the consumables to kill anything, you have the HP. Its just the damage. If youve got it, go for it ![]() Last edited by Jax; November 15, 2014 at 14:20. |

Biggest issues appear to be the lack of Confusion and Blindness resistance. It looks like you have items that would provide either of those at the expense of poison resistance.
Also, you can ditch the clone monster wand. It clones and hastes the monster you use it on, so it is not going to help you. |

Is there any reason to keep backup copies of those high-level books?

the resists holes arent a problem. the confusion/blindness might be. Once you get to the bottom fighting sauron/morgoth, having base resist isnt even important, just take all that crap off and load up on mana/arrows, stone to mud/destruction, and +con when you have the "resist" spell. Hell my latest char is about to take on morgoth with no fire/cold/poison resist. Just cast resist spell (if youre feeling fragile or he spawns some nasties) and load up on speed and +con. You neeeeeeeeeeed resist confusion though or youre going to be in big big trouble

I have a Pendant of Ingwë, which gives me rConfusion, but then I loose the rPoison. I could also switch to my wicker shield of Elros in stead of Thorin, but then I loose the immunity to Acid. Although so far I've cured confusion/blind by a potion of healing. I've used the leather cap of Thandruil for a While, till I found the steel Helm of Hammerhand, which gives me extra strength/constitution.
I could also use my long bow 'Belthronding', which does a lot more damage, but then I would loose +10 speed, which I prefer. I also got the Glaive of Pain for more damage, but then I would loose the benefits of Eönwë. It's hard making choices for the 'perfect' combination. Always feel like I don't have enough space at 'home'. ![]() In the days of Moria it was R-armour, HA weapon, boots/rings of speed, amulet of the Magi and you were ready. Within Angband much more combinations are possible, which is more challenging and of course more fun. The wands of cloning are just for fun. Love to clone wyrms and teleport them away. After a while they loose their gained speed and then it's just fun slaying more wyrms. ![]() Last edited by Einoel; November 16, 2014 at 13:04. |

You really need both rConf and rBlind, no matter what. If Morgoth brain-smashes you, you need to get away instantly, not with a healing delay. Otherwise, prioritize not getting killed, which involves speed over +30(when a mage, hasted speed over +30, so really easy), highest CON possible, and FA, SI, pConf, pBlnd, pStun(if possible). After that, just consumables.

Ehh, brain-smash can be countered with *Healing* or *Life*. It's severely unpleasant though, granted. I've fought Morgoth without rConf or rBlind because the random artifacts I had simply didn't allow for it.
Immunity to acid is totally irrelevant in the final fights. However, Thorin's +4 CON may well still be important. Cubragol's speed means that it should functionally outdamage Belthrondig over time, because you fire missiles faster. But anyway as a mage you're mostly going to be using your wands of Annihilation and throwing manastorms. |

The last couple of weeks I've had no time to play Angband, till this weekend. With the speed I have, Sauron wasn't that hard and after that I thought why not go down an extra level.
![]() When Morgoth found me, I teleported to a big room for the fight. After 7 potions of Healing, 4 potions of restore mana, 36 charges of my wands of Annihilation and some Mana Storms/Chaos Strikes the quest had been fulfilled. Of course I've also used some Phase Doors and a lot of Mass Banishments for all the summoning. Without Mass Banishment I think this would have been impossible. Morgoth has dropped 2 good items, his Mighty Hammer (great damage, but I don't like the Earthquake) and his crown. I noticed the crown is cursed and that probably means that I won't be able to take it off when I wield it. Is it possible to remove the curse, or should I not complain and just wield it? |
