But that's the point, right? More interesting choices? Especially with randarts that often leave coverage holes, things like that make for interesting decisions.

And I haven't seen an ego DSM anywhere near that good yet, across a fairly large number of them in my last two games. As long as the odds of finding that are comparable to finding a good artifact armor, I don't see a problem.

My point is that a gold DSM of Permanence, especially with a useful second high resist, is too good to make interesting choices. It overpowers most other options you could have.

I have found one DSM of permanance, and didn't wear it. Don't remember the high resist (rfear?), but it didn't fit well. Even with two good high resists, it doesn't seem to me that it would routinely overpower most other options for end game gear, and it is an ego on an item native to below 50, so is unlikely to be an early find. In the midgame it could be amazing.

Robes of permanence have never been the best I could do for end game gear, although when I found one at 20 it was on for a LONG time. Rare to get one of the better high resists, usually end up with something lame like rlight. Better AC and an extra resist I think could make it end game quality, depending on stat sustains, needed stat boosts from artifact armor or dwarven DSM, and whether the resistance holes lined up. Sounds like getting rconf and sound worked out well for you.

My recent randart games, I have had trouble keeping rbase covered while keeping speed and con/spellcasting/blows adequately high at once, so YMMV.

I did find a problem when squelching armor since if you squelch magic armor, which is appropriate very early, at least for me, it also squelches magical DSM's I think this is inappropriate since all DSM's have at least a base resist. Base resist on body armor makes it ego not magical, at least it does for non-DSM body armor.

tbh i don't see why we can't have a line reading 'dsm' in the squelch menu under robes and armour.

isn't the design objective re. the squelch interface/menu to make it more granular/specific in the future anyway?

I think squlech "bad" rings still squelches dog/mouse even before flavor ID. I had a ring in inventory un-ided, and turned the option on, and poof an un-ided just flavor showing ring went {squelched} and got dropped. Turned off, picked it up... inscribed with {bad?}

That's a pretty severe bug if setting a squelch level causes an item to pseudo, and an unpseudoable item at that!

Ah, not squelch_worthless but squelch bad via quality squelch menu?

I've tried to reproduce your bugs without success. I may not have tested squelching bad rings since the code went into 3.1.0.

Yeah it's a weird one, have had a bit of hit/miss myself finding it out exactly. Stupid me didn't make extra sure notice of it now, but I can 100% say it related to squelch bad quality, and either ring/amulet, but most probably ring. 80% certain it was dog or mouse ring ...

I managed to partially reproduce the bug, squelching unaware ring of the dog. It got marked squelch rather than bad, but hopefully fixing the squelch will cure your problems. I'm attaching a diff vs 2038.
