To smith or not to smith?

I'm back to trying to beat Sil. The latest promising character has just cleared the cat fortress at 850ft. On this floor there happens to be +3 forge gauntlets, two regular forges with 3 uses each, and an enchanted forge with 4 uses. I have 8000 experience stocked up... is it worth it to make a late dive into smithing to try to fill some gaps? What gear could I even make that would be worth using at this point?

Code:

I would make a feanorian lamp or two or three if there is mithril on the floor, seriously low light, but not more. Your char looks promising.

Nah. 8000 XP is nowhere near enough to produce higher-quality equipment than what you're already carrying, and you already have all important resistance swaps.

Are there at least 2lbs worth of mithril items to smelt on the level? If so you can maybe consider getting 4 Skill points + Jeweler (1500 xp) for a pair of Feanorian Lamps (remember dropping a lamp will illuminate the surrounding area indefinetly). Granted at that depth and with _Treasures you're bound to stumble on Enchanted lamps soon anyhow, but it would minimize your risk of dying to high-darkness situations (of which there are quite a few sub-900') in the interim.

That's a good idea, I think I'll do it. There's a mithril helm of brilliance that I had been wearing before I found Curufin, and it makes a lot of sense to use it to get more light again. I can also make a bunch of junk jewelry for bonus ids while I'm at it.

Now I just have to make room for even more stuff. I guess I can ditch the oil, and then some potion, staff, or arrows will have to go. Choices, choices...

You have Gaurin. Here is the plan:

- Get song of slaying (you prob want a few more points in song also)
- Walk down to the center of the throne room while there's tension
- Wait for dudes to pool around you
- You probably want to turn off knock back unless you need to create space (it slows down how fast you can mow things down)
- buff !quick, !con, !gra, !dex, !str (whatever order, doesn't matter that much)
- eat ,rage
- start singing slaying
- KILL THEM ALL

If any buff drops, rebuff. If you build up a high enough slaying bonus, Morgoth should go down pretty easy.

You'll want those free action greaves or some other form of fract to avoid Morgoth's song of slowing. Make sure your !Gra buff doesn't go down or you'll be vulnerable (I think you need 28 effective will to get 100% resist to it.)

Also to all the people asking for lamps: He has a billion perception and Listen, that's better than any light for hitting swarms of dark dudes imo
