Easiest way to kill Smeagol

I'm rather a newbie in Angband as for seven years I play Angband I've never been deeper then 2500'. But today I found an interesting trick (bug?).

Smeagol was a big difficulty for a low level characters as he used to teleport away stealing some gold.
But when all gold is stolen it's an easy target. When he succeeds in stealing gold and realizes that there is no gold, he doesn't teleport away. And after kill he drops all the gold he stole.

I tried same trick with Wormtongue - it doesn't work (he teleports after your protecting your money punch).

If you have Orb of Draining or Ball of Acid - those and a few scrolls of phase door will make short work of either of them. A potion of speed helps.

A good bow and some arrows (if you're lucky enough to have some by then) also will do the trick, albeit a bit more slowly.

A Wand of Wonder is pretty effective, too...

Or just wait until you are deeper, when he can't hit you, and you can do bigger damage, and his drop is likely to be better.

Smeagol is annoying... but he's not difficult. Just blast him with arrows or magic missile until he gets close, then whack him down. As a rogue, my dexterity wasn't low enough for him to nab any gold off of me, even at that time (I'm extremely conservative though, and go down very slowly at the start, so I may have been well beyond smeagol in level by that time.)

I wonder if this works in NPP too. Smeagol is a nearly impossible 50' quest for most characters because he keeps stealing and running. You simply can't damage him enough before finding him again. If you spend all your gold in town before attempting, this method might just solve that little dilemma.
