Competition 80

Competition 80 is now available from here; it is a Furyband Dark-Elf Jedi.

Note that comp 79 still has about half a day to go.

So far so good, first character died of embarrasment, or was it hunger and lack of scrolls of recalls

Second character cleaned out first dungeon, killed Old Man Willow and got into Orc Dungeon finally. Got into a level with all '&''s. Moving in these ampersands would get me tons of messages of 'it died' and then in the end the game crashed..

This is a known bug in the program, save often use Force Disarm

What is 'Force Disarm?' ?

I quite like this contest. "Walking softly, carrying a big stick".
I've never done the spider quest in this fashion, they never knew what was coming, they just die in one blow, even the purple ones, never woke up.

Its one of the Jedi powers that your character has, To use it press 'm' select the 'use Jedi powers' then 'f'. Each point you put into Jedi and subsections adds to his abilties and new one come available as he progresses.

Eh, dont worry about it, it is still a really good game, I thought the whole jedi thing would suck, but it is in fact quite interesting to play, I've gone thru 16 attempts now.

Some remarks :
- This game _needs_ scrolls of Deep Descent
- It is too easy to die and not generate a char dump, you should see how other variants deal with that, I lost at least 2 good chardumps because of this
- Not enough special boots !! One char was level 42, had awesome gear and boots [3,+6], ToME had the same problem by the way, maybe introduce more footwear ? Sandals, Dragon Boots, Shoes, etc ...
- It would be nice if the game would say which power was gained by ego weapons, this way I dont need to intently stare at the 'I'inspect information every time the weapon gains a level
- Maybe add some fixed way at the end of each section of the main dungeon to find out where the next section is, I still havent found within the game what the next section is. It's not crucial of course.

Thanks for the suggestions. If I ever decide to revisit the game, I'll see about reimplementing them. It's been a really long time since I've done any *banding. Been too busy trying to get into photography that I just haven't had a chance.

Gah. That'll teach me to use the built-in Automatiser (i.e. squelch settings). I assumed that it was set to only destroy lightsabres for non-Jedi. Where's the best place to find a replacement, now that I'm wielding a bloody Magestaff?
