What was your first?

Having gone through a few of these discussion topics got me interested. What was your first Roguelike? I see a lot of old Moria hands (like myself) quite a few nethackers, and plenty of others....

Moria. A buggy version where see invisible didn't work. Unable to see Balrog = lots of tramplings! I finally beat it 15 years later on a stable version.

Angband playing on Amiga 1200 in mid 90's. I found this game with collection of other games on CD.

Castle of the Winds.
^.^
From these here, ADOM. Quickly turned to Crawl then to Nethack. Gave up after one day.
Angband, stayed.

Me too. I looked briefly at another roguelike (maybe Moria) sometime in the 90s, and then got interested in Angband 5 or 6 years ago when someone brought the borg into my office...

I also got hooked with the wonderful graphical Moria-Version on the Amiga.

For me it was Hack, back in 89/90, on my father's Macintosh SE/30. It was a revelation seeing those pinsharp fonts (Monaco 9 - the One True Font for # walls, though a bit too small these days!) being used to represent such a game.

I still remember Hack very fondly (Nethack never felt the same to me). I never got further than about dlevel 3-4 though, being about ten at the time

Then it was Angband and Omega, I can't remember in which order, in the mid-nineties. Somehow I managed to sidestep Moria completely.

I started on UMoria 5.2.1 on Acorn, which if I recall was patched to have colour support. Sometime after, I came across Angband 2.8.3, but it was Zangband 2.2.8 that got me into hacking.
