ready for M? advice please!

I am pretty sure I am not ready for Morgoth quite yet - as I will need to stockpile more healing and such.

That being said, can anyone more experienced give me an idea of what I need to do to win with this one? I feel like I am getting close. I just offed Saruman like it was nothing, but the more powerful undead and such still scare the crap out of me...

Getting to depth is not my concern. I can create stairs all day long.

My question is more whether I am even at a point where I can survive any length of time at that depth, let alone take on M.

i feel like I am light on damage, and light on HP. But I don't foresee there being much better equipment. If I wait around forever for the perfect kit, i'm concerned I'll die YASD before I get to try my hand at M.

things to look for:
SPOILER ALERT

The glaive of pain
imo, is a rogue's best friend, for pure, high damage output IF you have enough str/dex to get max blows with it. Not sure if they've changed the tables recently, but still. Sick weapon that you can get max blows with, and it only has base depth 1500'. Better weapons exist, especially situationally (like if you need stats/speed) but this is probably my favorite weapon to use as a rogue for M.
The Light crossbow 'cubragol'
+10 speed on a bow slot. What else could you ask for? Base depth 2500'. IMO its worth skuming specifically for this thing, since its not *too* rare. Great item for a large power boost.
The Cesti of Fingolfin
You want this before fighting morgoth. Definately. (unless you are a god) It will make you feel much safer.
Monster spoilers
read them so you know what can/will kill you. Before it kills you.
Ring tips
If you have base speed (unhasted) close to 30, and good stats with one speed ring on, then, imo, its probably better to just put on a damage ring as your second ring for morgoth, since elemenal damage does nothing, you are already at the point where you get much less energy (moves per game turn) for each increase in speed, and the rings of power don't give you much, except for some speed and some hit and damage. (hit is *much* less important than todamage, especially because you can cast berserk and hero)
Gorlim
Gorlim gets a lot of hate. I like it. But only in very specific situations, like morgoth. If you don't need any resists or abilities from your helm, but would like some extra hit and damage while you fight, its a nice item to swap on.

There's no point ignoring stuff on the way. If you create stairs, descend, detect objects, and collect what looks interesting and nearby, then your kit will change immeasurably before you get to DL 99.

As to what you need, that is a whole lot more hp, but hp should increase as you descend. There's no point worrying about it now.

Not, yet, but soon. 644HP isn't enough to take on Morgy or Sauron--you still need a lot more CON and a bit more speed. But you do need to dive to dl 98-99 to get the very best of loot. A few more CL's and a genuine (+9 or better) ring of speed, and you will be ready to kill both bosses.
