Confused about birth option

In my birth options, it says:

Don't preserve artifacts when leaving level: no.

Being a double negative, it means *preserving* artifacts when leaving level (artifacts I never laid my eyes on or id'd, I presume). Checking the online file, it confirms this interpretation.

But later, when posting a file dump on the ladder, I noticed it says in the options section:

Adult: Preserve artifacts when leaving level : no (adult_no_preserve)

which seems to contradict the above. So what gives? Is there a "don't" that got lost in the way or it really is that I am playing without preserve artifacts?
