To get back 'on topic' for this thread. The only standard roguelike I've won on was Omega (with save scumming - practically mandatory for Omega IMO). In Angband my current character (no save reloads) is the highest level I've got so far
![]() BTW, what's wrong with the following picture? A prize of nothing at all is awarded to the first person to guess how that happens. Code:
1. 8976 Jem the High-Elf Rogue, Level 19 Killed by nobody (yet!) in the town (Max 1) (User 0, Date TODAY, Gold 8826, Turn 860576).

You've been townscumming for FA, and accidentally recalled from dl 1 and reset your recall level. Serves you right, kinda.

Nope. It was deliberate because I noticed that "Max" was actually "Recall level". No big deal because it's dungeon level 7 where I'm heading back to - I'm working towards a "complete" on uniques killed.

That's way more fun in Entro (there's a certain very-low-level unique...) ^.^

Good luck with your Rogue, Paul.
I personaly stick to Dwarf Priests as I believe they are the easiest to win with (I hope I'm not wrong about that ![]() I almost never play rogues as I don't like relying on missile weapons. I often forget to use mine when I'm short on mana although it deals 4-5 times as much damage as my melee attacks ![]() Although I'm still far from getting there, I'm a bit afraid about what I read recently about how to kill Morgy. Does everyone dig until they reach a border of the map to reduce the effects of his summoning abilities? That's the kind of trick I'm not fond of so I hope it's not mandatory. Quote:
btw, I always aim to kill all uniques. That's probably why I often die early ![]()

I've been playing since Moria, Hack & Rogue on my trusty Amiga 500, so some time during the 80s. Started Angband on Mac OS about 5 years back, thanks to pelpel. I agree with the dwarf priest being a good one to go with. I'm yet to win a game, but those little bearded holy buggers seem to have more staying power than most.

first played moria on the VAX at OU in the winter/spring of the 84/85 school year and have been playing ever since...have had winners in both Moria and various variants of Angband...never beat Vanilla though...I only play sporadically though, so many times I forget what I've got and start a new character...

I started playing Moria 5.0 on VAX/VMS system at Ball State University around 1990, then stopped without having won. Then I picked up an early version of Angband around 1995 (on a personal computer) and have been playing it ever since (Vanilla), upgrading each time there was a new release. So that's about 19 years. Then, last night, I won for the first time. High-elf mage.
I was in such a good mood today at work, and couldn't explain to anybody why. Grond is so *heavy*!

One of my brothers played Hack or Nethack on our 486 DX back in the 80's- not sure how they got hold of it but I do remember the keystone cops mentioned earlier.
When I got Uni in the early 90's my group of friends and I started playing Angband 2.4.frog knows. I think I hung with it until 2.6.2, but was greatly distracted by Nightmare MUD at the time. I have had two cracks at Angband since and am currently running 3.1.0 beta. Never had a winner, but my current Dwarven Priest is a lvl 18, at 400', who's just knocked off Wormtongue and picked up 'Cambeleg'. I'm a search every corner of the map player and only go down when I've not got a full inventory. So that makes me a slow and steady player, suits the Dwarven nature I suppose ![]() |

I've only been to around Dlvl 50 in Angband >.< |
