Second trip to dlvl 79 was a treasure room with a rod of healing and beaked axe of Theoden (sold). It also had an orc pit which I did first gaining the executioner's sword Crisdurian (sold) and 3 ! CHR. Third trip was a giant pit which yielded spear Nimloth (sold) and ! experience and INT. Promoted clvl 42 on dlvl 79 @993113 turns, HP700 wielding BAoBS, SP333, changed stats int 18/60 and chr 18/188. Ready to recall @993747 turns with 7040 killed. Character dump is attached.

Probably a mistake to sell Theoden before Glamdring, etc. Theoden gives, CON, WIS and ESP--that's a great combo for a Priest's walking-around weapon.

EDIT: and dl 79 is not a good level to spend much time on, as Nenya is native to dl 80... Really, the game doesn't get any harder all the way down to dl 99--there are a few more monsters you have to teleport away, but the improved drops make up for it.

It is especially important for a Priest to get to dl 90+, where Wrath of God appears natively in lesser vaults and in "good" monster drops.
(Note that Wrath is native to dl 100 and is 8x more rare than all other dungeon books except Kelek's )

Thanks for commenting Pete. I sold off Theoden because it isn't blessed, hits less than Taratol, and the ONLY thing it gives which I might need is telepathy. If I had found it much earlier in the game, it would have been more useful, but not any longer...

First trip to 80 had a giant pit which yielded MBA Rohirrim (stashed and quaffed all ! heroism for slot) and a staff of banishment. Second trip had a vault where I killed Beorn and found CM Arvedui, an amulet of trickery, = speed +5, and ! con and chr. Upon return I swapped ACM Caspanion for FPA Isildur, wore the amulet of trickery for resist poison (carrying weapon-mastery as swap), sold off the = str+4 and dex+4, sold off extra ? identify, stashed the = speed, CM Arvedui, and boots stability that I have been carrying for resist nexus. Net change : I am faster (+17 vs +14 at burden 120%), have same HP (700 wielding BAoBS), have 3 less SP (330), have 17 more AC (170 with prayer), hit 5 less on each melee blow (which is why I kept weapon-mastery in pack for swap), lost resist fear from weapon-mastery (wield Sting if problems), gained stealth to heroic - was superb, gained resist nexus so that the boots stability are no longer needed as a swap for boots speed, and gained resist sound (I really hate stunning). Stats adjusted for equipment : str 18/117, int 18/30, wis 18/218, dex 18/150, con 18/212, chr 18/193. MUCH BETTER! Ready to recall @998046 turns with 7193 killed. I have 1M gold! Character dump is attached.

Blessed doesn't matter all that much. Once you get to CL 46 [IIRC] with 18/200 WIS, you still get 0% fail on the important spells even with the pointy penalty. Theoden is an unlikely but not impossible weapon to use against Morgoth, and quite possible vs Sauron, depending upon your launcher and ego ammo.

Sometimes your weapon is for damage, and sometimes it is for abilities. Theoden has great abilities. You may not need the stat plusses now, but you cannot plan for how you may change your kit in the future.

Powerdiver :

The Beaked Axe of Theoden (2d6) (+8,+10) It increases your wisdom and constitution by 3. It slays dragons. It slows your metabolism. It grants you the power of telepathy. It activates for drain life (120) every 40 turns. It cannot be harmed by the elements.
Level 20, Rarity 15, 18.0 lbs, 40000 AU

The Mace 'Taratol' (3d4) (+12,+12) It is especially deadly against dragons. It is branded with electricity. It provides immunity to lightning. It activates for haste self (20+d20 turns) every 100+d100 turns. It cannot be harmed by the elements.
Level 20, Rarity 15, 20.0 lbs, 50000 AU

Are you saying that Theoden is as good as Taratol because of the wis/con +3? Otherwise it is inferior...

Edit : How about these two? They are still available for buyback in the BM...

The Executioner's Sword 'Crisdurian' (4d5) (+18,+19) It slays orcs, trolls, giants, dragons, undead, and all evil creatures. It grants you the ability to see invisible things. It cannot be harmed by the elements.
Level 40, Rarity 25, 26.0 lbs, 100000 AU

The Spear 'Nimloth' (1d6) (+11,+13) It increases your stealth and speed by 3. It slays undead. It is branded with frost. It provides resistance to cold. It is blessed by the gods. It grants you the ability to see invisible things. It cannot be harmed by the elements.
Level 15, Rarity 12, 5.0 lbs, 30000 AU

Temple still has this one :
The Flail 'Totila' (3d6) (+6,+8) It increases your stealth by 2. It slays all evil creatures. It is branded with fire. It provides resistance to fire and confusion. It activates for confuse monster every 15 turns. It cannot be harmed by the elements.
Level 20, Rarity 8, 15.0 lbs, 55000 AU

Nimloth is good to have around because of speed and stealth, and theoden is good for the telepathy (especially if you're using a crossbow or bow or orb a lot), and while you have telepathy now, if you find some good headgear without it, its a useful swap, so its good to save even if just to keep options open.

The issue isn't "as good as" it's "different and useful." Glamdring is worse than all your other weapons, and it isn't sufficiently different to keep.
These are possibles:
Balli (stats)
Theoden (ESP, CON, WIS)
Sting (damage with RoDAM, stats, speed)
Taratol (damage, activation, immunity)
Crisdurian (damage vs Evil, but you will find better.)

These are useless to you:
Nimloth (Sting is better, under all circumstances)
Glamdring (Taratol is better)
Pick of Earthquakes (Sting is better)

Also sell:
Rod of Curing (strictly useless if not playing Ironman)
Arvedui (Rohirrim, Caspanion, Isildur are better)

Soon:
Isildur or Rohirrim (they are too similar to keep both.)
Thalkettoth--unless you plan on killing M with your current gear and need base speed +20 to do it, no way are you going to use this.

There are only 2 fights that matter. Everything else is discretionary. The first importance of the home is saving items you might want for those fights. At the end, assuming full stat gain, you will want WIS + 6 and CON + 8 from your equipment.

The ESP on Theoden is irrelevant. You have the Palantir, and for decisions about tossing stuff you should assume you will wield it at the end. That does mean that Thranduil should be assumed to *not* be used. I usually wear a hat that gives CON+3 but not always.

Anyway, with that xbow, if you find a stack of bolts of acid you may not use your melee weapon against Sauron at all, so you should be saving weapons that might help you in other ways. The point of Theoden is the WIS and CON, and that is enough to make it worth a slot in the home.

Right--I didn't notice the Palantir in his home until well after that post. He certainly won't need Theoden for ESP, but he might want it for WIS+CON. (It's a pretty rare combination.)

Theoden + Caspanion gives you all required WIS and 6 out of 8 required CON. That leaves a lot of flexibility for the rest.

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to analyze my dump. I am on hold so far as playing goes until I better understand what is available in the way of artifact weapons versus monsters. To begin on that (rather than serendipitous unplanned gear shuffling) I spent the past twelve hours creating weapons and monsters spoiler files which are attached. Comments are welcome, but right now I am going to sleep!
