Guessing this has to be based off of one of the rings of power. Will have to look at spoilers after the game though...

     Found lying on the floor in a pit at 2650 feet (level 53)
     
     +6 strength.
     +1 wisdom.
     +5 constitution.
     +1 light.
     Provides immunity to lightning, fire.
     Provides resistance to acid, cold, light, chaos.
     Provides protection from fear, blindness.
     Cannot be harmed by lightning.
     Sustains dexterity.
     Slows your metabolism.  Prevents paralysis.  
     Radius 1 light.
     
     When activated, it inflicts damage on evil creatures you can see,
     heals 50 hit points, cures all temporary negative effects and
     grants you protection from evil.
     Takes 176 to 216 turns to recharge at your current speed.
     Your chance of success is 96.4%

Ridiculousness at lvl 25

This ring is amazing at any level, but to have picked it up at level 25 off of the ground is just crazy.

     When activated, it teleports you five levels down.
     Takes 155 to 209 turns to recharge.
     Your chance of success is 94.6%

Working on it. Don't want to dive TOO fast before getting more HP and speed though. I would hate to waste such a gift from RNGsus.

So, is that a challenge ? Outside the starting kit, only equip cursed items ?

I suspect it's more along the lines of a wail of frustration.
Cue: world's tiniest violin.
That said, I won't argue that randarts are perfect. I use standarts for a reason.

I dont know. Standarts are perfectly designed to fit. Randarts are, well, random.
I use randarts because I want my next game to be different.

As for the challenge, I agree it would be frustrating. I wasnt going to take it on.
That said, high elf mages dont need many things to get by. If mixed blessing items count, it would actually not be that hard - with a "good" randart set.

On second thought, randarts _are_ perfect. I use them for a reason.

Um. A 9d8 MoD +2 attacks with slay evil (among other slays) --with heal500 activation-- suggests that randarts are less than perfect. Yeah it's a great weapon. But a priest doing 1100 damage vs. evil really doesn't have much challenge.
