Monster list is almost finished up to dlvl 51. Turns out if you take a bunch of dragons bigger then AMHDs (including etherals) & shuff them down, move a bunch of wrong theme stuff, then Rograk just floats up to dlvl 49. My 1st trial of doing something about clvl is to make anything over clvl 30 take bucket loads of xp. So for now it's grindable but I'll balance for clvl 30 & the rest are meant for people who want to kill Morgy in the post-game.

So I'll have to make trolls tough but hopefully not a lot of adjustment, my 3 unique spirit trolls are native to dlvl 51, I assume they are brutal when they turn up. The priests are going to add some mayham, possibly they just need to be the right speed and tough. Where is Rograk from anyway? Currently he's filling my Sauran spot & I don't know who he is.

I think I understand a bit better why dex starts beating str so much for heavier weapon blows. It's tied to the dagger problem. If you spike str/weight more it spikes the light weapons more then the heavy. I'm not sure I have a great solution though moving weapon weights closer together helps. If I don't get something I like perhaps some variant of Min(str/weight, dex/weight) will work.

Getting something up was delayed as I'm unhappy with my monster list so I'm redoing it in a more organised fashion. Not a complete waste, got to try plenty of ideas & it's much faster doing it with a clearer system. Wargs and thus orcs sit dead centre which is convenient for getting them into more of the game.

I'm trialing an abstraction of scouting/mapping. It just uses stealth rather then a perception skill. The game now assume you travel/scout/map/cover tracks when you take the stairs. A small modifier is applied to monster/trap/stair gen/object gen. I was going to give hobbits a "lucky" flag but that just got absorbed in via there stealth bonus. It's assumed that rooms contain junk & item gen is "noticing", so it'll occasionally pull more stuff. Monster respawn is upped to stop stealth getting out of control. I'll have to play a bit before I decide if it's good or junk.

Did some stuff this morning & have a clearer idea where the classes go.
Paladin is the old warrior spot. So I guess just 1 town/1 dungeon book.
Druid swaps with rogue and I restat it for unarmed shapshifter. More Beorning then brown wizard.
Rogue is still burglar/ranger the nerfed bow shots in feature make that work. Play a dwarf rogue if you want something that'll melee well.
Mage is probably going to end up more the old priest. Mostly to drop the spells down to more glyphs less ping ping.

Edit: So if lvl 1 dwarf is 5hp, paladin is 5 & a dwarf paladin's con bonus 5. I guess I'll need a base hps to stop the hobbit mage being about 3 at lvl 1

I was happy with my zephyrs but now.. Too carbon copy, elements need a touch of character. Earth now digs umber hulk style with smaller packs. Elec it's a cliche but a touch of speed. Air, well I'm not going to miss blink dogs, they didn't add anything a phase spider didn't do bettter. Fire/cold/acid can stay basic for now.

So I'm going to say, 1st alpha end of next week. That means most coding changes move down the list and I clean up the stuff I can do in the edit files. My main mission for now is to take a 4.1.3 dwarf warrior to the balrog for no.s I need clvl, hps and damage output to fight AMHD and balrog of Moria for my balance pts. Between that & an FA rogue in limbo I'll lose some working time. (also it'll be longer if I get to Morgy, another V win is long overdue)

Decided on a plan for hobbit mage hps. I'll just let it go as low as 5 then make the 1st 5 clvls super fast. So kill something, bang up to 10 hp etc. This'll give them a more usable spell pt pool sooner too, allowing me to be mean earlier. So there's already no traps till dlvl 10, I'll remove torches, just lantern or phial. Enforce the smallest lvl size for 1-5, spread the junk monsters across it, put the dogs at 6 then anything that doesn't fit being squeezed up just drops from the list. Trolls & wights start at 13, so they'll be sleepy, sleepy. The less I can weaken them elsewhere the better. Cutpurses are around 10 so I guess ?phase will start there too

Argh, the monster list parser hates me. Seriously I can take a list that works. Add something. Remove what I added. Suddenly name is name. bleargh

So new plan here. I grabbed Umoria's list & I'll strip V down to that & see if it parses. Then add the umoria stuff that's not in V (which interestly seem to be in O & FA) then add the stuff I really want to keep from V & my own list. Then curse at it for not working.
