I wouldnt use The One Ring even if i found it (again, that is), i feel too strongly about it being an object to be destroyed, not worn.

If anything the ring is too powerful ingame, its sole purpose in the book is to overcome the willpower of the other ring wielders. I always thought the *Base, ESP and other stuff, the ridonkolous +15 damage, were inappropriate,as was the activation.
The ring should inexorably lead the wearer to death - always. The current xp drain is laughable.

(Apparently Bilbo managed to drop the ring, so it's not permanently cursed. Maybe Gandalf had a ?*RCurse tucked away in his sleeves)

Hobbits are canonically possessed of incredible willpower, which is both why Bilbo was able to release the ring of his own free will, and why Frodo and Sam were able to make it through to the Cracks of Doom in Mordor.

As for the ring's powers, so far as I know the only stated powers in-universe are invisibility, the ability to control the wearers of the Elven, Dwarven, and Human Rings of Power, and the ability to tempt its wearer into wearing it. It's literally the most desirable object in the setting. Denethor believes that with the Ring, Gondor could win the war against Mordor, and he might well be right, but it would inevitably corrupt whoever tried to use it and turn them to evil.

In order for it to be tempting to the player to wear, it needs to have some pretty ridiculous stats. The problem in Vanilla is how to represent the inevitable corruption and turning to evil of anyone who uses the ring. There's not a lot of scope for expressiveness in the current system. You could apply stat debuffs or drain HP or etc. but that just changes how tempting the ring is to wear in the first place and might encourage e.g. stashing it at home only to put it on for the last fight so you can benefit before the downsides kick in.

I would support changing ***WINNER*** to ***TYRANT*** (or something similar) if the player wins while wearing the One Ring.

In TOME 2 before you can fight Morgoth you must get the One Ring (which is a probable drop from Sauron, who can appear again and again until the ring is taken) and either destroy it in mount doom (fighting Sauron one last time) or wear it. If you wear it, all the towns (Bree, Minas Tirith, Khazad Dum, and Gondolin) are destroyed and appear as burning ruins if you visit them.
Victory is easier if you use the One Ring, but it comes at a thematic cost.

Since Morgoth is in play, Sauron could still have the one ring just as well. Even with Bulroarer and Smeagol roaming around.
If Morgoth is still around, then the rings of power shouldn't exist yet. The most powerful artifacts in the setting ought to be the Silmarils, and thus the Nauglamir (aka " Dwarves). But the necklace is actually fairly weak as things stand.

V has always been a giant grab-bag of everything Tolkien and large chunks of D&D, with no particular effort to make thematic sense. I don't think it's plausible to fix that without making it an entirely different game. Which has in fact been done; it's called Sil.

I think this is kind of fixable and you see it in FA. There may be vorpal bunnies in West Belirand but there's enough tolkien for it not to really grate. Vanilla's the middle ground between kitchen sink & theme. Beholders are ok but there's too many of them. Minotaurs/titans are ok but if you give them a Greek name it highlights the disconnect. Same as named Crows bring back the tolkien.

The Titans are a particularly strange choice, as there are plenty of Norse giants thst could be used instead--as well as the two Tolkien giants in Sil.

Nonsense, I fixed it all with the quote on the splashscreen

Don't change the one ring I found it and it's awesome... my precious...

If anything buff the Activation. Losing 1/4 of your exp and stats makes it unusable in my opinion.

Also finding the one ring at level 20 from Smeagol at 1/mil would be hilarious

What I'd like to see is Slay Elves, Slay Humans, Slay Hobbits on weapons. It doesn't make sense that Grond is deliberately set up to destroy everything Morgoth created.
