Only because I haven't yet deleted the sig on his second post. Fixed now.

I don't listen to any music particularly for Angband, I just listen to whatever I like...but since the summer after 9th grade when I started getting into music for the first time I was also playing Angband, I have some associations...especially Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. 3.

Black Mages was mentioned, any of the final fantasy music is good, or Wizards & Demon's album Touched By The Crimson King for epic metal, for something really weird, try the Conet Project streamable and downloadable at http://www.archive.org/details/ird059 it's actual recordings of unbreakable international spy communications on short wave radio, mainly consisting of strange little melodies and sounds interspersed with strange voice reading numbers in different languages. its sorta creepy. dream theater makes for a pretty inspirational soundtrack, rush is also good especially 2112

I've come across a great music selection that I listen to. In addition to Angband, I like to play Neverwinter Nights, and over the years thers been a lot free community content posted for download by users, on the Neverwinter Vault. It's called the cmp or communtity music project. It's composed of music tracks from baldurs gate, icewind dale, the witcher, a lot of the great rpg's from the past. It's over 200 music files, and sets the right mood for banding. What I do is load it into my windows media player and set it to play repeatedly, then minimize the screen and then load up the game and start playing. Kinda like in game music, dosen't even lag with two seperate programs running.

Im thinking that the reason so many fantasy fans like metal is that metal is the only genre that actual deals with fantasy. Bands like Led Zepplin, Rhapsody of Fire, Finntroll, etc....actually sing about Mordor and Hobbits and Trolls and Wizards etc...

Music to die to [OFF TOPIC]

Well, I just went to a DeVotchka concert, cold. I'd never heard of them. But if ever there was music NOT to play angband to, this is it. I am still just totally blown away. Here's their instrumentation, organized by band member:

Electric guitar
Acoustic guitar, electrified
Electric mandolin
Theremin
Vocals

Harmonium, or accordion(?)
Electric violin

Bass fiddle, electrified
Tuba
Backup vocals

Drums
Cornet (trumpet?)
Gourd-style rattle

I went to the local "block party weekend" more or less on a whim. I sure wasn't expecting these guys. Absolutely crazy mix of Eastern European folk, hard rock (the guy played the mandolin like axe-style guitar), U2, etc. The crowd was just loving it.
