That you can buy a brand new laptop with brand new warranty does put downward price pressure on the previous bottom end of the market (which was, 15" screen Acer etc brand laptops). This does trickle through the rest of the market... but I doubt that Kia puts much downward price pressure on a Ferrari, and comparing the Asus Eee to a Sony Viao is equally pointless.

Lies! I play Angband perfectly well on my laptop without roguelike mode. After a while, you just know what diagonal moves to make on the top row of number keys.

And watch out for 3.1.0 (or the svn version, if you're playing that), because it has my (un)patented "lazymove" system to alow you to move diagonally by simply pressing (for instance) left and up in quick succession. Well, in my experience simply pressing them at the same time does the job best.

I could update my 3.0.8 patch so that people could easily apply it to 3.0.9b if anyone was interested - it simply adds a slight delay after directional commands (running, tunnelling, walking, firing objects) so allow you to press another direction before it moves. On my machines, a delay of 3 or 4 centiseconds (I think they're centiseconds anyway) allows for reliable choosing of diagonal directions without being an irritating delay for normal movement. YMMV.

It slows down movement from holding down arrow keys too, which might be considered a bonus if you often die from not paying enough attention to such things.
