Well not so much avoiding them entirely as stopping them all having LOS at once I think? Maybe I miss a trick about how to control the risk whilst fighting big groups of monsters.

Well part of it is just assessing whats an issue and whats not. Multiple great drakes in LOS are. Multiple vampire lords aren't. You do get a bit pickier about what you fight without ASCs and you want an itchy destruct/tele-level finger. Other then that phases, TOs and being ready to notice the pt when a situation turns critical.
