Family Tree
Hello!
I decided to make a family tree showing the lineage of variants, because I felt that this is something that I really would have liked to have when I was starting to research Angband, but couldn't find one! I didn't include every single variant, but just the ones that seemed to be the "main" group. Check it out here. My sources were tangar's variants table, RogueBasin, and GitHub pages. I may add some color coding later but I'm pleased with what I have for now. Let me know if you see any errors, or if you have any ideas for ways to improve it. ![]() Last edited by swim; July 7, 2022 at 12:41. |

That's a really nice balance of simplicity and information.
Sil was forked from NPPangband, so potentially you could add that in there.

I don't know if Cthangband is considered prominent enough to add, but if so it branched from Zangband in 1997 and the latest release was in 2020.
There's also PernAngband, which became Troubles of Middle Earth (TOME), which became Tales of Maj'Eyal (keeping the TOME name). I couldn't give you dates or an exact lineage for that one, though. |

If it's been around and updated for 23 years then that seems relevant enough to me! I'll check it out!
Thanks for the suggestions. I find it oddly soothing making adjustments to this tree hahah |

@Swim--
You might consider using a directed graph. In particular, FAAngband 2 is a cross between FAAngband and Angband v4.2. No way would Nick have done it with the 3.0-era code base. The new code is--mostly--a lot easier to deal with. With one exception: monster resistance is more mysterious now. |

I'm trying to avoid it becoming a beast similar to this nethack tree, but I'll see what I can do!

Although now that I think about it I wouldn't be a bad idea to have both! A simplified one + a super in depth one with the version numbers.
