Saving Throw explained?

So I pretty much understand how saving throw works, but still find some things about it a bit confusing, like, why doesn't saving throw work against mana storms that are 'invoked' by enemies (other than the fact the game would be super easy), but it works against spells cast against @ to cause wounds?

Secondly, if I have 100% saving throw and I resist Lite and Dark, but I don't have pBlind, does that mean I can't be blinded, since I'll save throw against spells to blind, and I'll resist the effects of light or dark attacks? Or do I not save throw against enemies that 'set off a blinding flash!'? I'm trying to keep my AC and STR up and wearing an artifact torch is helping in this regard, but it means foregoing a lantern of TrueSight.

Thanks!

Saving throws pretty much work like a will save in D&D. In particular, they do not work against physical effects, like melee-based stat drain/status effects (which presumably are various kinds of toxins), blindness due to extremely bright light, and similar. They do work against spells that directly cause status effects, which used to be devoid of flavor text and thus could have been interpreted as the monster making a direct assault on your mind. Of course there shouldn't be a will save against a monster waving a lit stick of thermite around in your face, but the flavor text was added without otherwise changing game mechanics to suit.

Status effects due to unresisted elemental damage fall under the "physical effects" category and can't be saved against.

...With one exception: saving throws DO work against paralyzing attacks, so a 100% save means you don't need Free Action.

Wait, ghouls that physically attack you to paralyze won't succeed if you have 100% saving throw? But this isn't true for lesser titans that hit to confuse?
