Using either the source download or the latest git HEAD, I was able to compile nppangband on Linux (64 bit processor, if that makes a difference), but nppangband dumps core when moving to the dungeon from either the main menu or the character creation screen. This occurs with either the "local install" or the "system install" option.

Same here. Here's the segfault location:

Code:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x00000000004a4863 in get_obj_num (level=1) at object2.c:72
72                      if (table[i].level > level) break;
values of note:
Code:
(gdb) print i
$1 = 0
(gdb) print table
$2 = (alloc_entry *) 0x0
So the table pointer seems to be NULL.

Here's the backtrace if that's of any further help:

Many thanks for the detail. I will look into it. Amazing the game crashed there, though, because that part of the code has been unchanged for years.

Just curious. Which version of Linux were you both running? It worked OK for me in Ubuntu.

I'm running Arch Linux.

Another crash-bug was reported and fixed. Just curious. What race-class combo did you start with? I am wondering if they are related.

(Sorry for the late reply.)

I've tried several random combos -- it happens with all of them.
