Broken Savefiles

Hello all. I've gotten back into Angband recently and invested several hours in a couple of half-troll warriors. Unfortunately I am dealing with some hardware issues that I still haven't figured out the source for. The end result is that both save files got broken somehow, even though each supposedly completed the saving process successfully. Is there anyway to try to repair them? They don't seem to even have a file type. This has really sapped my interest in the game. I don't want to start yet another character and get it corrupted again. Thanks.
