Can't see anything wrong with using the Lance! Just finished a game with a very similar one. Don't think I found more than, let's see, about 50-100 better end game weapon candidates. Didn't find a better Lance though.

What a good idea Thralbee. I had a chance, and wasted it: just got rid of Eorlingas, after finding Doomcaller in a game as HE Rogue. They're both fun weapons, and doomcaller in particular is great for a high level Rogue. The -50 AC is neatly offset by Shield.

The mental image that arises when one imagines a hobbit paladin with a 30-pound lance is...odd. Especially when they're able to poke you with the thing seven times per turn. Congrats on your victory!

Amazing. Is that Marvin the Martian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_the_Martian)?

Again, you have ignored the ORIGINAL poster's @ class, that being PRIEST, not paladin, as your example was. Paladin's do not have the edged-weapon detriment.

Sorry about that. Couldnt resist posting after my first ever win with just that weapon. But I think people get it that I meant it is far from ideal but even inferior weapons that clearly are "wrong" for you are still feasible if you really want them to

The pointy weapon penalty is not a big deal UNLESS it interferes with the heal300 spell. No other priest spell is really an issue. You can swap it out if there's a high-fail spell you need to cast occasionally. If the heal300 spell is high-fail in the first place, then it still doesn't matter: you aren't going to use it in combat either way. It's only if the fail rate goes from somewhere near zero up to something untenable.

Yeah, but the lance in the original question is most likely to be useful as a weapon during the part of the midgame where a priest typically uses orb as primary offense, and melee as a mere backup. So that'll entail a lot of switching. Hopefully, the player who is actually stuck doing this knows that they can inscribe their weapons with @w0 to enable hotkey swapping (using "x" on the standard keymap), but even with that shortcut, it's not ideal.

Sure, if you happen to find such a lance near the end-game and you've been unlucky enough to find something better. My point is, the original poster, playing a Human Priest, shouldn't bother lugging around a heavy lance, or even storing it at home, when the priest can't even lift it effectively, let alone use it for a very long time.
