WIP Blackguard 4.2.1
new character, Dunedain Blackguard, 8pts STR, 8pts DEX, 4pts CON.
DL1 - found a spear of venom +1,+5, killed Grip, CL4 59hp DL2 - find a obvioulsy-cursed cloak, +0 {??} Nick, make cursed items be at least +1, this was we cannot immediately tell if something is cursed. Please?

DL3 - kill some insects, CL6 94hp (wow)
hmm .. i have 0sp. i knew that this was a thing but i'm not sure what use are detection spells if i can only cast them after a battle. DL4 - CL7 97hp (crap .. d19, CON 18/10 and i roll a 1 ..) DL5 - CL8 109hp CL9 (orcs) 119hp CL10 (ants and scouts) 137hp i try to kill wormtongue but he mocks me CL11 (scouts) 151hp i recall because my pack is full

i sneak a last kill of Fang before the recall kicks in.
in town, i kill Maggot with Leap Into Battle (finally something useful to kill that guy). This character is evil, make no mistake. Nothing useful in town. I id !Spd but not much else. DL7 - Bullroarer, drops a measly sling +2,+2 I fight an annoying pseudodrago who keep running and i Leap and i think i'm gonna keybind this spell. CL12 155hp. DL8 - i manage to survive a tiger pounce attack, get my STR drained by a red naga (happens once every millennium) but regain it right back, CL13 163hp. i find Wormtongue and test a wand on him; it's confuse monsters, which actually makes him icebolt a nearby soldier (lol), he dies and drops a dagger of venom +7,+12 !! I notice that with this, i do 31 damage melee, and 87 damage thrown; surely that's not right? i find a lantern.i find a weird corridor ending in nothing and i test Shatter Stone; giving a low level warrior a digiging spell seems a bit OP, but i'll take it - i hate not being able to dig into vaults. DL9 - nothing DL10 - i notice that the harpy has a new tile (so do the mice), and it's ugly. CL14, 170hp. Helm of Infravision +3 (poison curse). DL11 - webs. DL12 - i am getting my STR drained way too often, i need a nice ring of STR. CL15, 188hp. i kill a tengu and some random mobs, and one of the "new" snakes breathes a ton of poison at me. Fortunately, the damage is low so even with stack i survive it without problem. CL16 198hp. DL14 - pseudodragon, fear, use Berserk Strength. I like it. DL15 - i kill a bunch of ogres and run away from a group of old forest trees (mobs that cast confuse are not a good target at this depth). My pack is full so i recall, CL17 206hp.

no rings of STR in the BM. I buy book2 (1600 gold) and practice Maim Foe against a mercenary - it's basically Stun Monsters.
DL15, i mee Brodda, The Easterling and the fight is 50/50 until i land my shield bash, after which he stops doing damage. DL16 - ring of Ice, CL18, 221hp. I'm getting the feeling that mobs shoot a lot more? DL17 - first umber hulk, costs me a bunch of CLW; i get blinded often by other mobs, not a great saving throw with WIS 9. Kill some wargs and hit CL19 234hp. I accidentally id Deep Descent .. DL22 - LF 5-3 my pack is full so i recall. somewhere along the road i picked up a wand that turns out to be TO !! i observe that the book2 i paid 1600 gold for, can be destroyed by fire ... sigh. DL22 - a wyvern makes me burn all my CLW .. i clearly am NOT a warrior, as i miss most of my blows; once again, only shield bash saves me. i wander some more and find myself into deep trouble; Azog and Grishnak. I plan to run away, but cannot find a single turn to Recall. I quaff !Spd and run, then realize with Spd i can kill them - not. I TO Azog and kill Grishnak, and a whole bunch of other mobs, but after a long battle i burned through all my phase, 12 CSW, 4 CCW, and all i have to show for it is CL21 and 251hp. recall. BM has a potion of Strength but im 13k short. I buy 20 CLW and 1 CSW, which means i'll have to be careful, because that is very little healing for DL22. I invest a thousand gold in a sling of power. DL22 - lasts very little. I find both Kim and his sons charging at me and i bail. DL23 - even more disastrous; tons of tarantulas, fire hounds, giant fruit flies and even a tiger assault me at the same time, not even if i had Aggravation. Recall, and i might climb back a few levels. CL22 258hp. DL23 - i last a little longer but eventually i have to bail again, as Azog shows up to double-team me when im fighting Nar, The Dwarf. nothing useful in town.

stuck on DL23 .. i kill some basic mobs, one 2-headed hydra (easily), and then Bolg, Son of Azog pushes me out.
I find a ring of Escaping, now only +2 Spd (makes a ring of Teleportation more useful as it has the same bonus but no Cowardice) and sells for much less. again i find myself in too difficult situations and i climb back to DL22, hoping to settle on DL20. I notice that my shield bashes now can Confuse monsters. somewhere along the road i hit CL23 and 263hp. DL22 - i kill Gorbag and get nothing. Im out of potions. CL24 277hp. I seem to be gaining an awful lot of levels for a Dunedain. DL21 - LF 6-8 !! i kill a whooooooole bunch of half orcs, however this cuts me down to 1 Spd, 7 CLW, 2 CCW. I still have a few charges of TO though. .. erm ... FIVE CLW and 1 CCW. A tiger and a couple of illusionists occasionally paralizing me. I drink an un-id potion (LF8 means there could be an Experience of Augmentatio somewhere, and i dont want to sell it) and it's Brawn, 18 STR (18/30) and lose 1 DEX to 16 (18). i spot a demi-vault. and kill Shagrat, CL25 280hp. I do however consume ALL my potions. It's not a vault .. it's a pit. A pit of tengu. I might be dead, but i'll cast Recall.

bloody gizzards!
i live, but nothing to buy in town. 6 CSW and 25 CLW, some more phase, but no FA, no STR, nothing. it's not easy, as i can see the blows table has been changed since the early BG was introduced. This is good, as the previous BG was overpowered, but right now i'm a warrior that has no detect of any sort, no esapes, and no warrior!! obviously i did not pick up whatever the -8 was. DL21 - i massacre a whole bunch of orcs and half orcs. I recall to sell stuff, and finally find a ring of STR +2 in the BM. 40 damage / round with my dagger. Out of the previous loot i keep a rod of treasure detection. The level i'm in gets swarmed with breeders so i look for an exit. I find 2x Nimblessness which i will stash until i can get above STR 18. I try to kill a 3-headed hydra but i fail miserably and have to recall. DL21 - i kill Nar, The Dwarf, and get a whopping spear +3,+3. Again the tile was changed into something worse. LF 6-3, i take this opportunity to go down. DL22 - LF 5-6 finally something decent to play with. Half of the level has nothing it in, and then i find an open, cross-shaped room with a ton of trees. I phase away and prepare a careful plan for attack which immediately goes to the dumps. New mobs.. Abyss worm mass. A breeder that eats walls. Nice. Aaand i get my xp drained as well. Furious, i kill some but then i run away, and decide to risk it all. I go to the trees and find that, yeah they are tough, but deal almost no damage. I brute force my way to the middle of the room, killing none, but picking up a weapon. Partial id says slays trolls and has ESP. Ok, 28 damage is not much, but at least now i have some detection. AND i can carry my dagger as a swap. +1 light, so it's a holy avenger? Slays dragons, trolls, FA, SI, rDark, it's pretty darn useful. next step, i need one more Brawn, then i can quaff my Nimble, and i should be ok for damage output. an artifact light would be good, as anything with an activation - aside from my pathetic ring of ice. DL22 - LF 6-5 tons of orcs and even-more-annoying-than-before hounds, Kim gets teleported away and my prize is a Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy +15,+11. This does a good deal of damage and i can now reliably kill hydras. There are a decent number of potions for sale, and i id'd a good bit of gear, but insofar nothing noteworthy aside from the early wand of TO, to use sparingly. I'm off work so i decide to call it a day. file dump below. Code:

after a 24-hour bender where i got more drunk that any human being can even imagine without being permanently shellshocked, i set back into the dungeon.
DL22 - Azog right at the start, and i decide i've had enough of this badguy so i pop my last Speed and prepare to melee him. Obviously i forget to swap. 20 CLW and a few CSW + CCW later, he is dead. Ok so, @Nick. this release has some MAJOR latency issues. I'm srsr, this is unplayable. When i wake mobs, they slow the game down to nothing. This is a quadcore 4Ghz, 8Gb of ram, i shouldn't be having any of this. I also kill Ugluk but he drops nothing. CL27 - 306hp while listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cZsHLOKR3g did you know that Ian Gillian - from Deep Purple - sang lead on Jesus Christ Superstar? I'm a Blackguard so obviously i have zero Identify, but i found a amulet that has +2 Spd, so i will use this for now, even though i have no idea what either artefact does - the speed bonus is enough for me. I didve down a couple more times, but no change; the only difference is that i spend 14k gold on a Long Bow Of Power +12,+20 ! from the BM. My reasoning is that it's better than my x4 crossbow, AND it weights much,much less. fun fact : there are two songs called Damned For All Time; one is part of the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack, and another is instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhGWYupx3ck Corrosion of Conformity are by no means a great band but they made one album called Blind which is soooooooo much better than anything else they have made in their career. The drums on that album are amazing. i dive again and the only thing of note is that 1) i can kill 2-headed (blue) hydras with my bow alone, and 2) holy crap orcish liquor is horrible. I even manege to make it down to DL23 - LF 4-5 My prize is a Star which, as i do not have Identify, i can't tell you what it does; i don't know. It's got +3 light, ok. I even pusah down to DL24 because i think you're all getting bored by now of this slow-ass gaming.

i meet Ungamyet and Sangahyando of Umbar and i cannot be bothered, so i kill them both with my brand new bow. My prize is a bog-standard Elven cloak, it's got some unknown resist, but otherwise it's just +1 stealth +1 Spd. And, on the same level, i find another artifact cloak, that has +2 INT (useless) and +" tunnelling (good).
I like tunnelling. JCS kicks in with the good songs; i dive another level. DL25, i wake a group of trolls and the game grinds to a halt. nothing of note. I kill some mobs, get my Xp drained by a vampire, and on recall i find a Brawn in the BM, which puts me to 19/32on STR. I drink the 3x Nimblesness potions, and only lose INT and CON - good. My damage now is 117 vs trolls, orcs, demons and dragons, 78 vs others, which is good. I have no potions of Speed, which is not good, but +3 base Spd is nothing to scoff at, when you are clutching straws. Ohsanna. JCS really kicks in. Dl23, Khim Son Of Mim tried to stop me, but i carelessly roll over him. He drops a miserable magic robe which i set to ignore. two uneventful levels later DL27, nothing really happens. I learn a few id, i restore my xp, buy a potion fo CON from the BM, CL27 322hp, just as ALW pumps out the flogging on JCS's. ALW: Andrew Lloyd Weber JCS: Jesus Christ Superstar

DL27, LF 7-3 i find an ant pit. I see that ants now have a breath attack. They destroy everything they drop before i can pick up anything. I also kill Orfax and Boldor and .. it's just too much xp. This really needs a tweak, i cant be exping this much at this depth.
CL28 333hp. DL28 LF 5-6, but i never find the artifact. As always, i read a scroll and it's teleport level. I do kill the snaga unique but he drops nothing. DL29 LF5-3. with all these hit points, i can easily be at DL40 - i just need to get there.
