Sil 1.1 "Brute Force" winner

A sil 1.1 winner:

In one of debo's videos, he says something like "I don't understand how people can win without stealth." I took that as a challenge, and this character is my response. Yes, I know that the are plenty of other winners with little or no stealth already on the ladder, but this one is *mine* :-)

This build relies on brute force to pretty much kill everything in its path, plus the occasional scampering away like a scared rabbit, as appropriate to the situation. With no stealth it's pretty much fight-or-flight all the time, since nothing stays Unwary for very long. The only trick to this char is the rush to the "Flaming Arrows" skill to provide early offensive punch, and then forging lots of arrows to allow one to use the skill with wild abandon. I went through maybe 20 incarnations of this character before hitting upon the right timing of when to take what skills, vs. pumping up the base abilities. That, and learning when to run away; it took a long time to un-learn my angband playstyle.

The fight in the throne room was very cool, as (after buffing up) I just started hacking away in a target-rich environment. With the special "rage" attack, I pretty much just laid waste to everything. The melee bonus from Song of Slaying went as high as +14, and everything except an Unrelenting Horror and a couple of Cat Assassins (and Morgoth) was dead in short order. After dispatching the others, Morgoth fell to a hail of arrows. Specifically, Rapid Fire Flaming Poisoned arrows, delivered while Quick and singing Sharpness. I decided to take Flanking for the trip back up, since it lets you kill things without slowing down the rush to the stairs.

Hats off to half and Scatha and everyone else involved. A very nice piece of work. As a fan of the Silmarillion, I am especially pleased at the attention to detail in the game; quite remarkable.

That's awesome - I have been hoping someone would write a non-stealth AAR exactly like this. More props to Sil - and to you for the win.
"3.4 is much better than 3.1, 3.2 or 3.3. It still is easier than 3.0.9, but it is more convenient to play without being ridiculously easy, so it is my new favorite of the versions." - Timo Pietila

Hey, great character. I think this may well be the first winner who is a specialist in both Melee and Archery, and I'm delighted to see that that's a viable choice!

You made a crazy number of arrows. I'm not sure what to say about that, except well done for finding such a good way to leverage the forges for what's essentially a non-smith.

Good stuff! You've heard this before, and I'll say it again... The next thing I'd like to see is a winner with only Melee + Evasion +/- Will. But, NO points on Archery/Stealth/Perception/Smithing/Song, the wonderful toys we know and love!

Here are some examples of mine: (Azog's Bane; v1.0.2) (Archetyped; v1.1; didn't finish because of hiatus [no, not dead]; here for demonstration)

True; nearly 600. And that's not counting the ones I found lying around. When I said I used Flaming Arrows "with wild abandon" I wasn't kidding. For the quite modest 800 point investment in Smithing, I was able to generate a great deal of additional offense. And forging arrows is quick.

Heh, Song of Slaying can get really crazy. I had a character who got up to 25 or so in the throne room and then proceeded to kill Morgoth in 6 or so turns. He had Glamdring and Delmereth and had 3 (whirlwind) attacks in total, not counting free ones from controlled retreat, flanking, opportunist, zone of control. He had a lot more goodies than your character though.
