Quickband

I noticed that when I hit level 36 with my Half Elf Mage that the next level was over 20M experience... Is that a cruel joke? Will the next one be 40M, so I should just quit now??? Not sure if I ever made it this far with a HE Mage, so not sure why this game is supposed to be "quick", it ramped up immediately at level 36.

You are expected to win before CL30, IIRC.

So, has anyone ever done it? That seems absolutely impossible and now i question if I really want to play it any longer. I love the fact I don't have crawl through everything so slowly and there is a good bit of "flavor" to everything. There is a reason they call "regular" Angband "vanilla", but it's the only one I ever won, and it took forever.

Are we sure it isn't a function of being a half-elf? I love choosing that too because it accelerates finding artifacts and uniques as well.

I'd forgotten. Last I played, the penalties were for HE only. (The draw of the Gray Havens begins to affect them, or something.) There are a number of 2.0.6 winners, but all of different races. They are around CL35 and ~500000exp.
