I removed that file and it started to work much better. Looks fine now. Just now getting used to gameplay. Like why My pt (I guess piety) went from not being there to -75 by walking around the dungeon. I get 1 back every time I kill the townsfolk... I'll Google piety tome I guess...

The in-game help files have a lot (but not all) of the info you'll need. It's worth checking there first. There's also the forums, which are good places to ask questions (although may not be the best for searching right now, as it lost many of it's old threads after hackers got in and then the forums were upgraded). There's also the Tome Wiki, which is a good place to go for some of the spoiler info.

Piety for some of the gods decreases over time, or can decrease for doing other things that anger them. Negative piety is pretty normal early in the game. By the time you are strong enough to wade through some of the monster-rich dungeons you'll have it up in no time.

Note that if things seem pretty overwhelming at first, you can always play with no god, or an "easy" god that doesn't have the incessant piety drain. Once you get the handle on your other skills and spells, then worry about prayer...

The killerbunnies spoilers (scroll down to "Spoilers") are very helpful; the in-game help is merely quite helpful. Several of the gods will gradually reduce your piety over time, and all will reduce it quickly when praying. Since you mention getting piety when you kill townspeople, you're probably worshipping Melkor. He's easy to please; just slaughter everything in sight. Negative piety is not a huge deal unless it gets really massively negative (like, into the -5000 range).

Quick gods spoilers:
* Eru: the mage's god. Requires blunt weapons, boosts INT, WIS, and max MP as your piety increases. Gives knowledge spells.
* Melkor: works for anyone. Boosts STR/CON and saps INT/WIS as piety increases. Provides access to the Udun magic school (containing Drain and Genocide, both very handy), and at 5000+ piety, can autocast the Curse spell in melee, which just makes combat a joke (but you do have to boost Prayer a bunch to make this useful).
* Tulkas: works best for warriors. Boosts STR/CON and helps melee accuracy as piety increases. Divine Aim triples melee damage for a few blows. Gives access to Earth school (big spells: Stone Skin and Stone Prison).
* Manwe: general-use. Boosts speed as piety increases. I haven't used him in ages, but I hear he's pretty good.
* Yavanna: is a pain to worship (you pretty much have to chain-charm wild animals to gain piety), and doesn't provide many useful abilities. Don't bother.

Eru is great for archers, too.
Since they have huge damage output, detection is a big win. You get piety just by existing, so it's easy to keep him happy.

Proper necro. The easy answer is use % to go into Interact with visuals and then Change feature attr/chars. There you can run through the 256 features and fix all the ones mapped to space to whatever you want.
