Armour Stats

What does the (-2) mean in an armours stats? And is there a certain weight that armour does this at?

It's a melee to-hit penalty, and is set in object.txt for each type of armor.

Honestly you can pretty much ignore it, it's a very small effect.

To_hit -penalty, and no, there is no relation coded to weight to that, heavier armors just tend to have that penalty (it is set in object.txt). Isildur for example doesn't have that penalty, and it is one of the heaviest artifact armors.

So that's all "The weight of your armor encumbers your movement" really means?

No, that's different. For each pound of armor you weigh over a set limit (IIRC 20 pounds, though I could very easily be wrong) you lose one point of max mana.

Having bulky gloves (no DEX bonus, no free action, not alchemist's gloves) cuts arcane casters' mana to a third, if I recall correctly. And using a sharp weapon increases priests' failure rates (but has no effect for paladins).

Speaking of which, I would like to see this displayed somewhere (similar to how the Inventory command says that you are X.X pounds over or under carrying capacity). I guess the logical place would be on the equipment screen.

The inventory screen already gives you "you're at 108.2% of your carrying capacity" or words to that effect. Do the math yourself.

That's completely separate from armor encumbrance. You could be bare-naked (and thus have no armor penalty to mana) but carrying 99 full plate armors in your backpack (and thus be well over your carrying capacity limit).

Exactly! The Inventory command does the math for you, by telling you either exactly how many pounds you can carry before you become encumbered or how many pounds you need to drop in order to become unencumbered, but the game makes not a peep about how much armor you can wear before it hinders your movements and costs you mana. If a similar gauge were added to the equipment command, I think it would be at least a small help to spellcasters.
