The S_WRAITH spell has been rare for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure that only a few very high-level uniques have ever had it; that list might historically have been as short as the Witch-King, Qlzqqlzuup, Sauron, and Morgoth himself. I see that in addition to those four, Tselakus and Maeglin also have the spell currently. Tselakus has been around for ages but aside from having a cool name I've never been good at remembering his abilities. Maeglin is a relative newcomer.

It's entirely possible that the mechanics of S_UNDEAD have changed over time; I think they used to pull monsters based solely on the dungeon depth and they may take the summoner's level into account more now. Ji Indur Dawndeath, Dwar, Dog Lord of Waw, and Hoarmurath of Dur are the only ringwraiths with S_UNDEAD. Even then, from a statistical standpoint they'd still be more likely to pull random non-unique undead like beholders and liches than specifically one of their brethren.

The main reason to hate the ringwraiths is that they're relatively common, fast, and often have unpleasant abilities. Adunaphel in particular is a fast, invisible wallwalker with non-erratic movement, which can be surprisingly nasty at the depths she starts showing up at. But generally, if you have a decent offense they won't last long. Uvatha in particular is a pushover as he has no ranged abilities of any kind.

Tbh i do not remember well because i played 3.0.6 years ago, 2008 i think. And i never got much lower than DL50, i got to Morgoth twice and died both times.
I remember this damn bunch of nazgul chasing me every damn time, and back then i didnt understand the concept of "retreat before certain death". So iwould take them on and die miserably.
I also stopped playing shortly after, so i cant say for sure.

Probably you were chased by Adunaphel. She is impossible to avoid because of PASS_WALL and long detection range. And she is native to near DL 50.

And the ringwraiths in general are quite common, so if you don't keep a careful eye out you'll keep running into them over and over again. Same goes with Saruman, who is quite common once you reach his native depth.

Ok so i likely imagined it. I still think there is something there. The nazgul *should* travel in pack, we may not want the weakest one being able to summon the Witch King totally ood, but it's a good idea for buffing these otherwise weak uniques and keep in line with the legendarium.
It's also a good depthwhen you dont have tons of TO to get rid of any uniques you dont want to fight just yet.

One simple fix would be to give the deeper ringwraiths a "friends" tag so that they have the shallower wraiths with them, assuming said shallower wraiths haven't already been killed of course.

Summons were changed at some pt to stop demons from summoning bigger demonic summons. Not sure about undead but presumably they were all changed. In CPBs and the like an undead summoner is liable to end up summoning all the uniques given enough chance.

Perhaps it would be thematic to add a special summon, that can summon another ringwraith but summons them to a random position in the level

So you wouldn't immediately face a bunch of rwaiths, but if you weren't quick in removing one the others would find you

@Hughox--
What an original idea! And maybe make a hard-to-use-ID item curse that does the same thing!
