[Sil] Killing with doors
Is it just me being lucky or are doors actually a good weapon for a non-melee character in the early levels? I find closing doors in the face of wolves and worms way more effective than bashing them when melee is low.

Forgive me if I'm misreading this... but, when you say bashing with doors... is it that you have a monster where the door is, and you go to close the door, there is a message that says, "there is a monster in the way"... you hit it, etc... ??
I always assumed this just meant that you attempted to close the door, but since there was a monster in the way, you performed a regular attack instead with regular attack roll and damage. I'm often wrong about how the game works, but judging by a quick experiment this seems to be the case. I think you are just getting lucky! I actually like it when they are in the doorjam because I can just attempt to close, then hold down the 'n' key to spam attacks until the door closes... or, I die. edit: I got to thinking maybe you meant the numbers were rolling better... maybe like, taking-a-20-for-open-door... or something like that. I seem to roll a typical set of good and bad numbers when I do this too.

I would like to note that the Staves of Imprisonment are not as useless as some people would think.

Do you mean 'killing' in the sense 'if it can't reach me, it may as well be dead'?

Killing with doors reminds me of Dungeon Master. In that game using door-guillotine was an efficient early game tactic.

I meant as an attack. But it is probably just an observational error. The code is not that easy to read, but it seems all that happens when you try to close a door on a monster is that an ordinary attack is triggered.

If you mean by ctrl+dir, then yes, that will do an ordinary attack if there is an enemy in that direction.
