I've been trying out the new versions, first 4.0.0 and now 4.0.1, and I've liked what I've seen so far! But I seem to have located a bug. Using the release 4.0.1 on MacOSX 10.10.4, it looks like every time I quit and reload my save file, all of my monster memory disappears. I've been carrying a rod of probing in order to repopulate my data. I use it, quit, restart, load safe file, and it doesn't recall the probed data.
My savefile is being saved into Documents:Angband:save:mrfy and I see it's successfully creating mrfy.prf and randart.log at Documents:Angband: Monster memory should be saved even with this new version right? ![]() |

Yes, it should be saved. Can you see a file lore.txt? Is there something blocking its creation?

I don't see a lore.txt. AFAIK, there shouldn't be anything restricting it being created. The Angband folder is marked read/write, and other files are being saved there. I also checked all of the game options and there doesn't seem to be anything relevant.

Copy moster.txt from the gamedata folder and place into ~/Documents/Angband and rename it to lore.txt.
This will give you full monster memory, but given you're probing everything, I imagine that's what you're after. |

OK, this is indeed a bug - but there is a workaround, which is to quit the game using Ctrl-X, instead of Quit Angband from the Angband menu on the OS X menu bar.
Annoyingly I had to fix a similar bug in Windows, but managed not to check for it in OS X. EDIT: Now fixed in development - thanks for reporting.

Yes, quitting via Ctrl-X does work and create lore.txt. I usually keep my game going but sometimes do have to restart my machine. I prefer to have my character gain his knowledge via experience (& probing) than to have the full knowledge from monsters.txt.
Thanks for the workaround! Still getting used to the new version but I like what I've seen so far and looking forward to future updates. ![]() |

I notice too that when you save that it updates your save file along with the .prf file, but not lore.txt. Shouldn't the save process also update the monster memory in lore.txt?

I'm playing on Windows. I just probed some Ice Trolls and got full info. I closed out the game with the X on the window. When I reload the game and recall info on the Ice Troll, it says that I know nothing about it's attacks. Same thing happens if I use Ctrl-X. When I look at other monsters I've probed, I know nothing of their attacks.
