[FA] Races starting in dangerous places

So I decided to make a Adan rogue, and I was excited that I get to start at level 4, but then the game threw a curveball that I start in the middle of level 20 areas....

How is somebody supposed to make one of the races whose homeland is in a very high level area and survive back to the lower level areas? I tried to sneak around, but didn't last long....

Is there some really clear and obvious way to get through this that I'm missing? I'm new this variant...

Thanks!

You could try an easier race to get used to the game - Longbeard is a good introduction.

If you want to stick with hard races, I guess imagine you are an inexperienced person venturing out into dangerous wilderness - go a little way at a time, run from anything that looks dangerous. As an Adan, you have evasiveness in forests, so exploring the forest to the north of town will possibly net you some experience and gear.

Which I guess is a nice way of saying "stair scum".

I found the "dangerous races" have been enormously helpful for learning essential survival skills. I've never really had a high level *band character and my first few FA characters kept dying around char level 16 or so.

Then I started trying High-Elf warriors. After littering the levels around Gondolin with about 15 player ghosts, I finally applied some thought and learnt how to run away, stick to the edges of the maps, and generally do things more carefully.

As a result, my first High-Elf warrior to get back to Ephel Brandir has managed to survive to level 49 and I'm currently having fun looking for a decent shield in T-I-G.

BTW, I love the concept of artifact "sets", however I looked at the data files and the bonuses for completing a set generally don't seem to make it worth the effort. Am I wrong?

Probably not. Sets are scheduled for an overhaul, probably in 0.4.0.
