Why do the townspeople hate me? :(
I'm playing a priest in 3.5.0. Finally found Holy Infusions and went crazy macro-enchanting all of my gear.
Ten billion turns later, I snapped out of my enchanting frenzy and walked around the town a bit. First, there are a TON of people, cats, etc. I guess they spawn over time, and since until now I'd left town soon after arriving, I hadn't noticed. But second, what surprised me is that all the townspeople were on the far side of town from where I had been sitting. That got me wondering -- assuming it wasn't a fluke, then why, in terms of code, did that happen? Last edited by chikinn; November 13, 2014 at 20:59. |

Monsters aren't allowed to spawn where the player would be able to see them pop into existence. I'm not sure if this is actually a sight-based thing or if it's just a radius around the player, but either way in town it would result in townspeople tending to be on the opposite side of the level from you.

Playing a Aesthete in Steamband has this phenomenon, full force. You spend a lot of time enchanting +15+15 Ego daggers to afford the innate speed/AC/whatever buffs intown. Pretty much the only way you're competitive. After spending a jillion turns enchanting you run around and see walls of townies. Kill them for more daggers!
